Cities: Skylines Airports DLC announced for release in January
13 Dec 2021 at 6:29 pm UTC Likes: 3

This sounds like fun! I'm hoping they've basically adapted the system used for parks, college campuses, and industrial areas to airports (it's a little hard to tell, but the whole "airport progression" system sounds like that sort of thing). I've seen mods that allow you to kind of modularly place airports, but having it be in the base game will likely be much better.

Though, full disclosure, despite putting 84 hours into this game I've yet to develop a city large enough to unlock airports. But I'm really planning on sticking it out with the latest city I've been developing, I'm getting better at handling the public transport necessary to run larger cities instead of just having everything run on cars.

Valve show off exclusive Steam Deck case for 512GB model

For some reason that shot on the upper left with the case closed makes it look way longer and skinnier. Must just be the perspective, I've seen the shots of it in people's hands so I know roughly how it looks, but...huh.

Steam Next Fest gave developers a '500%' increase in converting wishlists to sales

Quoting: Purple Library GuyWell, maybe I'll wishlist that.
So I just realized the Terraformers: First steps on Mars free "prologue" released a few days ago, and having given it a go it's basically like the demo (a 30-turn limited game) with some updates and differences (you used to be able to sell resources to get money which you in turn could use to buy resources, now all trading is strictly between resources, and is limited per-turn by the number of "trade routes" you have, how you build on the planet is a little more constrained, some rebalancing, etc.). You could check it out to see if you want the full game.

Just picked it up, though I'll have to wait until I have something other than a (work-provided) Macbook to play it on...

Emphasis mine. Yeah, exactly this. It feels like time as slowed since original announcement.
When it first announced: "Oh, shipping in December? Neat, maybe I could get one before going on my annual Christmas vacation to see family (who all live a 5-hour plane ride away), something I can game/browse the web on besides my phone while I'm away from my normal desktop for a week or so".

After three hours trying to get a reservation: "Ok, well, Q2 2022...I guess that's better than nothing. Oh, maybe I can get it in time for that rumored family reunion in the middle of the year in a different state, to have something to game/browse the web on while I'm away from my normal desktop for a week or so."

After the announcement of shipping being delayed two months: "Well, maybe I can have it in time for next Christmas vacation?"

Valve reportedly developing a Half-Life shooter-strategy hybrid

Yeah, I think certainly a part of why I liked it was that as a kid I was obsessed with the solar system, so getting to drive around on different planets and moons was like catnip to young me. Also I think the Scion heavy tank from BZ2 is possibly my favorite ship design of all time (I also loved the Scion morphing vehicles in general). But I totally agree about environments being sparse and a lack of interesting characters.

I guess we'll have to wait and see what Valve comes out with and if they can come up with a better control scheme.

Quoting: Purple Library GuyOh, Terraformers had a Next Fest demo? What's it like?
I found it quite engaging, to the point where I went back to play it probably some 20-30 times by now (the demo is a 30-turn limited slice of the gameplay). It's definitely got a very board game-like feel to it; you play in turns which are one Martian year long, and each turn you get production of resources and your choice of two "projects" (basically buildings, though some can be built in cities and some can be built on the surface of the planet). Some turns also have random events that can get you extra free resource production or an additional project or stuff like that. The game is a fun balance of building things to increase your resource production, with one resource being the happiness of your people, who come to expect more of it over time as Mars becomes more terraformed. Terraforming buildings are in the demo, but they have fairly long-term effects such that there's not much point to building them with only 30 turns, and while that limit makes for fairly quick games (<1 hour), I'm really keen to get a longer game like 100–200 turns (not sure what the optimum length will be) where the terraforming has a chance to stretch its legs and I can actually spread cities over more than just ~1/10 of the planet.

I haven't played Sacrifice so I can't comment on it, but much as I loved both Battlezones as a kid they absolutely have very clunky control schemes and doing most stuff now (I have the remastered versions) feels like swimming through molasses.
