Age Of Wonders III Strategy Game Confirmed For Linux
12 Jun 2014 at 10:03 pm UTC

Quoting: jdubNice. This will make up for the failure that was the fake Eador port
You can say that again. Shouldn't even be listed as Linux released, if I were to have my way at the moment. I wonder if AOW3 devs opened up after seeing Aspyr's success?

The (hopefully) Weekly State Of SteamOS Address
12 Jun 2014 at 9:54 pm UTC

Quoting: GoCorinthiansATI ...uhhhh!
My first reaction too, and an R9 290X no less. Not hating on you n30p1r4t3, but AMD's SteamOS support is not great. Highly not recommended for anyone trying SteamOS for the first time. They'll get the wrong impressions when games give blackscreens or low fps, and will assume it's SteamOS's fault.

Good luck trying to get the Witcher 2 to work in SteamOS with AMD. Let me know if you can actually get it running. Just a black screen with my old HD5750 on SteamOS, no matter what settings I put it at. That said though, Civ 5 and Painkiller work ok (albeit graphical glitches) at 1600x900 with medium to mostly low settings.

EDIT: Just wanted to say that this:
All I had to do was select "Automated install" and let the installer do it's thing
Was very true, and a sincerely nice experience for me using SteamOS. They really are trying to make it as easy as possible for anyone.

2nd EDIT: Just my ramblings, but SteamOS's biggest amazement is it's controller support. I have tried the following (all attached simultaneously, and individually), and they have all been correctly recognized and worked off the bat. Menu navigation and gameplay.
  • PS3 Controller

  • 360 Controller

  • PS2 and PS1 Controller

  • Logitech Rumblepad 2 Controller

  • Logitech Extreme 3D Pro

  • Saitek X52

Icculus Gives Hope On The Goat Simulator Linux Port

The goat runs on Linux!
Well, in due time at least :)

I second your sentiment leillo1975. Let's hope he's patient, and doesn't take on more jobs before he's completed the ones he's doing now.

Looks Like LIMBO Is Now Being Ported Natively To Linux Thanks To Icculus

I think Icculus might be overburdened right now. Goat Simulator and Sanctum 2 are both under him, and those haven't moved at all.

If he is the one making Limbo native now, I'm worried he's gone and taken on too many jobs at once. If anyone has further information on this, please share it with me.

Major Trine Update Should Be Released In The Next Few Months
3 Jun 2014 at 6:58 am UTC

I've finished both Trine 1 and Trine 2. It's best to play in chronological order, as there is a story.

If you do play the 2nd one, play it in co-op. You'll get a lot more laughs out of it, and it'll make the experience last longer!

P.S: I played Trine 2 co-op beginning to end with my only other Linux friend in real life (The rest all use Windows). Worth it at full price, no joke.

Youtube Are Being Stupid On Video Monetization Yet Again
30 May 2014 at 2:33 am UTC

This is many times the reason why I can't get a video up. I've practically had to let go of a lot of my comparison videos or benchmark videos of Valve games because they question my permission to use it.

I have even disclosed the Valve Video Policy to Youtube to prove that I am using it for educational and/or studying purposes, and when a soundtrack plays I either mute it or cut it out to be safe. You can find the policy here:http://www.valvesoftware.com/videopolicy.html

They respond by not responding. My videos get left in limbo, and after a month or so I just delete it.

In my most recent videos that I can't get up, are the ones trying to test out different Desktop Environments and seeing their performance difference for gaming. Quite a number of hours of my life gone down the drain, but I'm glad I could get some up in the end.

Eador. Masters of the Broken World Linux Version Is Being Worked On
24 May 2014 at 7:16 pm UTC

I would much rather pay full price than buy it at 80% off and get a crappy, crappy port.
You are not wrong. My statement about buying it on sale, is solely because it seems like they are doing the port as an after thought. This likely means something less than stellar (although this is just assumptions on my part).

Eador. Masters of the Broken World Linux Version Is Being Worked On

If they do end up releasing a port, and it's well done (actually professional, and not a money grab), they may have my respect and money then. Time will tell though.

I'm really only likely to buy it once it's on sale now though (that feeling of brand new is gone since they took so long).

Epic Games Release New Information About Unreal Engine 4 & Linux Support
20 May 2014 at 7:41 am UTC

They seem like a class act! I hope it continues to get better, and I really can't wait to see what games others will bring us.

It would be really sad though, if we had developers do only Mac and Win publishing and give the old excuse of "We need time to test/insufficient resources, and will only port at the end" like so many do with Unity (even though it's simply a click away).
