DXVK 1.4 released boosting this Vulkan layer to support D3D 11.4

Quoting: lejimster
Quoting: KeyrockValve is usually pretty quick to update Proton, I'm sure we'll see 4.11-6 or whatever with the new DXVK in a few days.

Makes sense to wait for any fixes for the Rockstar Launcher before the update. The GTAV proton bug thread is very active trying to figure out why some people can run the launcher no problem and others are having issues.

The Elite Dangerous Launcher was also a cramp at first set up. We have reached a point where we have more problems with the launchers than with the games. :)

FOSS voice chat application Mumble has finally put out the massive 1.3 overhaul

I've been using Mumble on my own server for many years now. Long before Discord existed.

What many people don't know anymore is positional audio (because Discord doesn't support it). Mumble supports positional audio in many games. Again and again impressive in Minecraft, because Mumble not only includes giving a sense of direction, but also of distance. Increases immersion tremendously.

In the beginning I only used Mumble because it was so easy to install (under Debian). But I don't want to miss it anymore. Besides the mail server it is the most important service on my server. It's a sheltered space for friends and family. Everything that is spoken there has passed in that moment. No recordings and evaluations from Google, Apple and Co. Mumble is freedom.

Going where no Steam Play has gone before with Elite Dangerous

It works for me, too. It has recognisable edge flickering. With my GTX 970 I have to reduce the graphics settings a bit. But never mind. It's absolutely playable. With a few adjustments I use this setup for the Steam Controller:

I played Elite for the first time in the 80s. Back then on the C64. It was my absolute favorite game. An incredible job that Braben and Bell had done. Elite: Dangerous captures the spirit of the original Elite perfectly. I am very grateful for that. But even more grateful for Proton and Valves efforts around Linux.

At the moment I'm a little sick, but I will soon turn to ED again. Maybe we will meet sometime? I'm CMDR 1xok. :)

Facepunch adjust their Linux plans for Rust, refunds being offered as it won't continue at all
15 August 2019 at 6:23 pm UTC

I bought several copies in Sales. I don't feel like trade them back. Don't know anyone but Facepunsh who makes such a fuss.

Doesn't Rust support Vulkan?

EDIT: Would be bad if this example sets a precedent for other games. ARK is also such a candidate. As a Linux gamer you have to look at this development with skepticism. I don't buy games to trade them back. This also damages the reputation of Linux as a gaming platform. Completely unnecessary I think.

pyLinuxWheel and Oversteer, two open source tools for managing Steering Wheels on Linux

One of my Linux kids has a G29. The device works perfectly under Linux. But with the Euro Truck Simulator the Force Feedback doesn't work. FFB works in Dirt Rally and F1 2017.

Can anyone give me some advice here? The child plays under Xubuntu (18.4 "Bionic Beaver").

Facepunch Studios confirm their plan for the Linux version of Rust, to be split from Windows & Mac

One more thing that comes to mind: I've hardly played Rust so far, because I was always immediately attacked by an angry mob. It's almost impossible for a novice to get into the game. I would have played Rust a lot more if I'd met people like XPander.

The problem has now been solved. ;)

But joking aside: Linux players are often much more cooperative than the average gamer. A game like Rust can benefit enormously if the cooperative players are separated. Sure, it's bad for people who like war. I like war too. I love to play CSGO for example. But what happens in Rust is often just unfair and complete coincidence. This is no fun in the long run. I'll try Rust again when the crossplay is gone.

There are so many positive developments around Linux, we should not be discouraged by such things. In two years Rust will run 10 times better under Proton than the current Linux version. Including EAC.

Why Facepunsh-Studios can't do it doesn't really matter. Maybe they should just start using Linux privately. It could fundamentally change their lives and games in a positive way.

A three-way look at Rocket League on Linux, with D9VK versus Linux Native

Quoting: liamdaweThankfully, threaded opengl makes it pretty darn good.

That's a fine understatement. For me the frame rate almost doubles.

Which surprises me: My GTX 970 makes as many frames as your 980 Ti in RL. I use a 6700K. I don't know if this is the reason. There are probably more bottlenecks. In CSGO I have a constant 250 FPS with maximum settings.

In any case, thanks for the hint!

I'm surprised that Liam only gets 86 FPS with his GTX 980 Ti. I mean, that's a pretty powerful card. I'll have to look at RL again soon. But a great test. Exciting times for Linux players.
