Fistful Of Frags Will Come To Linux If Greenlit
4 Oct 2013 at 4:10 pm UTC

I played this a couple of years ago! This was well cool. Beats Smokin' Guns by a mile in terms of gameplay, and the soundtrack is equally awesome.

It is definitely one of the better Spaghetti Western games I've ever played. Greenlighting the crap out of it! :D

Red Orchestra 2 And Tripwire's Future Titles To Come To Linux
1 Oct 2013 at 1:08 pm UTC

I agree with Linas.

I never saw Linux as a real 'brand' anyway beyond Operating Systems development. It's always been more about the distribution you use; it's Debian, Canonical, RedHat and the like that handle marketing for Linux, not really the Linux Foundation itself.

Let's say someone wanted to try Linux. Would you point them to https://www.kernel.org/ [External Link] or your favourite distribution's website? The answer is obvious.

All the distributions have Linux in common which provides them with a significant level of compatibility, but beyond that... most people are well aware that Ubuntu and SteamOS are Linux distributions and work with Linux software. That really is good enough.

Game Dev Tycoon, FSF Terminated Their License To Use Glibc
8 Sep 2013 at 12:11 am UTC

Quoting: Hamish
Quoting: Quote from DudeskiWell, not like the FSF is known for being particularly rational or non-douchy when it comes to these things. Those people would much rather just see all "non-free" software dead and gone.
How is the FSF defending the rights of those who use their license make them acting like a douche? The Game Dev Tycoon developers made a mistake and violated the license; actions have consequences.
I disagree. The license violation was so minimal it's unreal. The GOL article actually makes the facts less clear, which you can see for yourself at this post on the game's forum [External Link] by our very own Liam Dawe.

They left a mention. All they did was just not include the license! Absolutely ridiculous. Personally I disagree with the FSF and while I prefer open source software in most cases, I believe it can and should coexist with proprietary software. I didn't realise that the fact the entire codebase is copyrighted to the FSF could have such an impact.

I'm surprised in general to have seen the FSF getting its panties in a bunch over this when I've seen much more serious breaches of this type from proprietary and open source software alike.

Frogatto & Friends Commercial Version Coming Soon To Linux

Not bad... I have played the free of charge version to completion as it is.

I wonder if this will add any significant amount of new gameplay? Anyone know what the changes are from the free version?

Starbound Has Had A Lot Of Updates Recently
12 Aug 2013 at 12:35 pm UTC

Honestly, I think the game has great ideas behind it, but I've just HAD it with pixel graphics! I didn't grow up with them, I grew up on the N64 and PS1 and I feel no nostalgia whatsoever - all I see are ugly graphics. Isn't it time to move on already. It feels like game art is moving backwards rather than forwards at this point. :><:

Believe it or not, I was gifted this for my birthday! I don't know if it counts as a Windows or Linux sale then, but yeah, waiting for it to come to Linux before I play it! :D

Crowd-Funding Linux Graphics Card Driver Development?
2 Aug 2013 at 3:59 pm UTC

Could you explain a bit better how this will benefit us? Note that I know very little about how the kernel works internally!

For instance, you say it's only for open source graphics drivers, but is it for all of them? Gallium3D for instance (which I also don't know that much of) is not used in Intel's drivers by default.

Additionally, why do proprietary graphics drivers not use Mesa? Is it due to the restrictions of the GNU GPL?

Thanks in advance.
