If this thing could also make phone calls out of the box without an external attachment I'd buy it and ditch my old Android phone in a heartbeat.

Ordered one to put in a Pilet. A Linux tablet with 16gb ram should be useful for many years, unlike all those cheap Android tablets designed to either break quickly or with short software update lives (in your face planned obsolescence!).

I've been wanting a Linux tablet for a while for generic use around the house, so I took the plunge and backed it. It's from a Canadian team for a change, its no China trash. It doesn't guarantee its going to be good, but it feels good to back a group of fellow Canucks. I also don't have a Raspberry Pi and have been wanting one for years, so that goes too.

There is no AMD Z2 Steam Deck model coming - Valve

Agreed, developers are still learning to optimize for the Steam Deck, there's a lot more juice left in it. Besides, Steam Deck targeted optimizations usually benefit everyone with older or less powerful PCs, so really its a good thing if they don't release a Steam Deck 2 too soon.

While Palworld enjoys a resurgence Valve dropped the rating to Steam Deck Unsupported

While I have not played it on my steam deck because its likely a hassle to play without a mouse, this latest update is great. I played it at release but gave up because of all the bugs and annoyances. The devs did a great job ironing it out and it plays a lot better now. Still plays very well on desktop linux, this has not changed. We are enjoying 4 players coop as a family, everyone is using linux on a mix of older and newer computers. Even our laptop with a lowly rx5500 gpu runs it fine.

That and a round D-Pad that can probably only output the 4 diagonals... and those ugly RGB leds.

I find it hard to not notice the annoying musical instrument that are used for voice when you get hurt. I fall down one block too high and lose 0.1 hp and get my ears blasted with harmonica. Also the wolf snarl is pretty loud. Did you maybe disable some sounds?

You can disable temporal storm and you are right, there is a peaceful mode where mobs will not attack you. You have to define those in the world config, in single player its easier to set them when initially creating the world.

It depends on how they want to play, but there are also surface baddies, such as wolves and bears, those can be a lot worse than the underground baddies, looking at you polar bears.

Historically, combat has been pretty low on the players' wish list. Everybody always voted for more content and more realistic homesteading simulation. Now that those boxes are checked, and the dev team put a lot of efforts into making it awesome, the combat may be slowly getting on top of the stack of todos. But there are a lot of disagreement on how it should be done. Definitely not like Minecraft, as it ruined the game for a lot of players, which ended up moving to Vintage Story. :) Some people want something more along the lines of Valheim with parry and blocking but without the stamina, that would work for me, but the dev team doesn't seem to want that style of combat. One thing's for sure, they will need to get rid of hitscan-style hit detection, its just too limiting (the upper corner of that dead body's hit box is in the way? Sorry, your swing hits it and misses your intended target... WHAA!?). We'll have to wait and see what they comes up with.
