I really can't understand the people who say it's bad news. I mean sure, Activision is bad and maybe, MAYBE someone from Microsoft could have managed this in a better way.
But come on... How few company takeovers have been actually good for customers ? It's not even a topic about Microsoft, Sony or any other game corporation. It's about the ever-increasing amount of small and innovative game studios bought and buried by big corpos. Hell, Blizz being bought by Activision turned this company into a living hell for people working in it in the first place. Being bought again won't solve anything.
Bullfrog, Obsidian, Blizzard, Westwood, Bitmap Brothers, Psygnosis, Bioware... how many more studios does it take to make people realize ANY takeover is bad : the bigger the company, the more corporate bureaucrats obsessed with short-term profits have power over creative minds. Why do you guys think DLCs, microtransactions and all this toxic stuff is so common nowadays ? It's the result of decades of big corpos buying small studios.

Very good news indeed. Big corpos and their increased centralization are a plague cast upon gamers, no matter what AAA-loving people will tell you.
A shame Reagan damaged antitrust laws so much in the 80s.

These fine people, with a 20-year old game with a probably vastly obsolete code base, are putting other studios "unable" to ensure proper native Linux versions to shame.
One of the few companies worthy of respect. Kudos to you !

It was about time they did !
Half the userbase was whining that the game wasn't hard enough, the other half complained about the game being a tad unfair with certain mechanics (like turrets that target you besides the enemies).
This kind of things will ensure everyone gets what they want without ruining it for everybody else.

One of the very first steps in any development project is ensuring the tools you plan to use are going to do their job. BEFORE starting to code. If Unreal Engine wasn't a satisfactory solution, they could've seen it way earlier (and then either ditch it or ditch Linux support).
Just to be clear, I'm not even mad (anymore) that a game studio gives up on Linux: after all, we're clearly a very small market not worth the investment. It's the hypocrisy, the surprise announcement on release that sounds a lot like a "woops! sorry nerds!".
You consider making a Linux version ? Use cross-platform engines and make sure they work. THEN make all the promises you want.

This is something they clearly could have seen months, if not years ago, if they were really invested in their Linux version. I totally get that this is not their fault, but they could've seen it and warned people months ago, instead of just saying "oops" after the release.
Glad I didn't kickstart it, won't buy from these hypocrites.
