GOG suspends all sales in Russia and Belarus

I suppose you feel that you always are on the side of the truth, and others, with different opinions and feelings, are always on the side of propoganda?
War, war never changes. First victim of war, the empathy. First winners of war, a self-centred view of the world and the fact that the "others" gradually, but quickly, pass from 'another me' to 'stupid aliens'.
No political leaders are clean in this (his)story, and, if we have to rank the dirtiers, Putin is for sure at the top of this list. But so many why? (example: why NATO after the end of USSR continues to behave as if it was not ended? Why Ukraine could not remained a neutral country?).
The trouble for russian people is that Putin is basing its propaganda on true facts (even if minor to our western eyes: far-right ukranian militias that killed russian and this Dombass war that is running for now more than 8 years, with some ukrainian army exactions). Putin, ukrainian and western leaders are both ranking the importances of some more or less minor true facts to justify their own decisions.
Rational external people (European people for example), should send them back-to-back and support every path that favours de-escalation, for the sake of life, civilians. ...But also for the sake of some of these young russian conscripts that clearly don't want to do this war (and that can be our own children...they didn't choose to be soldiers). I prefer these russian conscripts in tanks that refuse to crush ukrainian that block their way or deliberately obey orders the more stupid way to make their tanks and squadrons impotent than these young europeans joining the ukrainian resistance with the will to truly fire and kill invaders. An invading army can't keep an invaded country, especially with such unmotivated police and soldiers. But go give reasons to these unmotivated russian conscripts to avenge a friend or a beloved, or to feel stuck between the need to save their lives and their will to not arm civilians, and we will be all fucked.
"West" is walking on a very narrow path, with massive consequence for European (and less for Americans...it is quite far from them). Russian people may aggregate even more around this politically-finished so little time ago (and rumour says with declining health, terminal-cancer) Putin, or revolt against him. I would not be the western leader that bets on one of these two possible options with insurance and determination, currently. Not on what should or will do russian people about Putin, and not betting if this KGB mad mind will or not send nuclear missiles when he will end cornered (by his economy or his people).
In addition, russian people are resilient people. Russia just signed free trade with china (some researchers on geopolitics even say that it would be the true cause of this war): they have food, gas and oil, they can trade with the world-factory that is china, without any dollar/swift and without any interference from the rest of the world, ... I won't even bet on the fact that they will care of commercial sanctions.
...so carrying on GOG decision? Same results: will it upset russian people against Putin or against GOG and western companies that fit and give reality to Putin's propaganda?

Watch Valve's Gabe Newell deliver some Steam Decks

I'll tease in this message because I place high Liam's value, and the good direction linux gaming is taking thank to this Steam Deck.
That's pure communication. Like war propaganda on every side across Europe currently: it's made to forge a legend out of nothing, a bard's tale (Jasper?), to force one's view/storytelling (Gabe = the cool, legendary guy, that take care of customers) into population minds. Either it is true, and we don't need this simulacrum; Or its false, and he need this simulacrum.
Ok, why not, even doing a article on that, but it's not an information. Moreover, Gabe won't be delivering deck into indonesia, honduras or Ouganda, while claiming that's a way for obtaining a true "return" of customers: ....he means English-speaking, US citizen centered opinion ; So, again, pure communication, everything in this video is artificial; even not showing him walking (with difficulties). In short, pure marketing, zero information.
He wants to take into account for ALL customers? Let's do a public videoconference meeting with low moderation, nothing like Agoras since Athenian early democracy for a truly-horizontal discussion and egalitarian exchange of vision and ideas.
Fortunately, Liam wrote "A fun bit of marketing but..." ... But this 'But' immediately closed the critical mind, the necessary writing distance between the fanboy fuelled by marketing and the journalist :(
And finally, to Liam: you are procrastinating with this middling article :D. We ask for more review of this machine please ;) Hardware change of ssd for example, how it behaves in office tasks, video watching, etc. All stupid question like : can I play or watch video in the bed while my half is sleeping (fan sound, click of the buttons, etc.)? <3

Retro x86-based machine emulator 86Box v3.2 brings Linux support

I don't understand how it's such a mess to package something in linux. From a beginner point of view, the fact that each distro proposes its own packaging method looks like old proprietary OS trying to keep captive their pools of users and exclude the possibility to change.
Like for phone cables, we need a clear, stable common basement so that the free (like in freedom) exists, and at a level beginners can handle, not at a level that only kernel pros can manage.

Quoting: KithopSomeone's already got a PKGBUILD in AUR [External Link] (and -git version) I might try later; just because the 86box team offers a distro-agnostic AppImage doesn't prevent everyone else from doing the 'right' thing with their distro of choice. I'm sure someone'll have a PPA for Ubuntu users, too, in time, etc.Ok for the appimage, but also building a apt would cover most beginner populations. I never built a appimage or a apt myself, so I imagine that should be a hard task for devs to do it routinely?

Do we have the number of daily CSGO players using linux from a reliable source? Is it more than the 1.2% of linux players on steam, equal or less? Can we see/document that from steam reports? Do you know if there is way to know if its a linux, a mac or a window client on a server?
Roguelite FPS dungeon crawler Ziggurat 2 has left Early Access

Excellent game, quite different from the 1 (I enjoyed). 40h on it, they change a lot the system during the last months, moving from a system like the ziggurat 1 where you gathered stuffs for the run in which you were, to something more where you farm experiences for the next run (unlock new power, new character, new weapon; upgrade them). The missions and the arena mode are also quite enjoyable and refreshing.
Stellaris: Aquatics Species Pack announced, launching with the free 3.2 update

I tried a lot also (~60h), I found it fun, but in each of my 3 runs, I went nowhere: i'm literally obliterated by the other civilizations, i don't understand what I should do to develop a durable civilization, how to interact with other civs. I have always fun to explore the galaxy until I find the other civs that block me and don't agree to leave me without conflict making my stuff in my corner of the galaxy...
Too much micromanaging, or I didn't understand the equilibrium to have between all the parameters to manage... I'm manage Civilization series since the first one, but not Stellaris. Probably, I have not enough time to read tutorials or watch videos that would explain a bit the mechanisms of the game, their importance on what and there consequences so I can enjoy it completely (knowing what to do to move where I want with my civ is what I think Stellaris lack - and I have the same feeling about the other paradox games: they lack of tutorials or clarity in their mechanims, except if you like to feel completely lost in front of a complex game)
So I understand (seriously) pcavalcanti post ;)

snap & flat are unusable on my (4 years old) laptop: slow as snails, kilotons of memory needed, bugs/freezing etc.
But yeah, on my 4k€ gear at work, no trouble...
after, you can spam the discussion with your good feelings, saying that's not snap. But whatever, if snap allows bad utilizations, thus it means it is rotten by design.
Will try again in one month on my laptop. With the truly hope to change my mind on snap
edit:
by reading a bit, you find these gems:

(17 September 2021) Ubuntu removed a couple of Snap apps it loaded by default due to their (comparatively) poor performance and quirky behaviour to repo versions.
nice discussion [External Link]but it is soooooo old bashing snap
Jorge Castro @castrojo 25 juil. 2021: It just took _10 full seconds_ for 1password to launch on my desktop, in case you were wondering if Canonical is working on performance for snapd.
Alan Pope @popey 25 juil. 2021: They get ignored or dismissed. The CTO flat doesn't believe there's a problem. The team is understanffed and there is no motivation from IoT and enterprise focused people to fix desktop problems. Been trying from the inside for *years*. I gave up hope and left.

People that claims to not communicate on personal opinions about politics, world state(economic, ecological,...) were already said by Plato as "very political" (so old problem, no new ideas): in fact, they agree and are fine with the current system. And by saying to other to not tell their political opinions in their daily life and products, they ask them to shut up and join their "every thing is fine in our current system view". This is a corner-stone of consequentialism.
Claiming/requesting people to not talk about politics in arts, culture, etc. is thus ultra-political.

Quoting: TheSHEEEPInstead, the point is that developers should keep their personal opinions and views where they belong (various discussion platforms exist for that purpose) and not taint an entertainment product in order to try and shove their views down the audience's throat via (usually very thinly veiled) pandering, preaching and self-insertions.This writing is so cute of naivety and philosophical, political and ethical ignorance that I wonder if you were trolling considering your pseudo or making second degree humor?
Stuff like that is insidious and disgusting.
