I do not believe that Linux desktop gaming is a strategic target for such a huge company. Such small pet projects are usually the first things to be stopped after a merger by the controllers. They seek to streamline acquisitions and cut such things off.
Finally I think the majority of the mentioned Linux games have been released before the aqusition by Embracer of the specific studios. Therefore I‘m quite pessimistic regarding effects on gaming on linux of this move.
I have to admit I tend to agree I do not think we ll be getting more linux native games as a result. So far THQ has ported desperados to linux and said at the time more would follow they have not. Metro another THQ owned property now apparently is totes coming to linux only no dates for release or information on whether its in house or using fereal generally not a good sign.

I could be mis remembering but I sware I heard in an interview before he took over desktop design duties he was not impressed with wayland which has now been chosen as the default for upcoming ubuntu releases. Maybe that formed part of his decision to move on either way good luck. Martin even if you did hand out a free graphics card to pedro for shouting out ubuntu mate on their podcast.

It's funny looking back, back in the 90s "cheats" used to be a "feature" you literally paid extra money for a players guide or game shark or whatever to get special new capabilities.
Yeah this times a thousand remember Total biscuit used to say i used to be able to put a cheat code in now i need to enter my credit card info

Quoting: queer_birdAm I doing something wrong? Lutris just doesnt seem as good as it used to be for me. It used to have an option to sync all of the steam games I had installed and it could find all the GOG and FOSS games that i installed with my package manager. Now I have to add all games one at a time which kind of defeats the purpose for me.

But I use it because I can customize wine for each game plus the scripts that let me play games that proton db lists as borked.

its a great sound track and am sure it will be challenging but like shovel knight that price makes me shake my head at 9.99 its a high priced inde but it would be worth it at almost 20 for me no. I got Shovel knight when it went down to 7 pounds. It is not because the devs do not work hard i just think its 20 quid for nes game in 2021.

Fereal have pretty much ditched linux in favour of mobile and switch save from probably annualized total war games.
The other game studios that tried linux support are either under totally new ownership or in IO interactive case they just didnt get the sales they were expecting from Hitman so when they went independent from square and hitman 2 was on the horizon they ditched linux.
Can anyone even remember the last time Ayspr put out a linux game. Metro exodus is apparently still coming to linux nobody has said anything other than yup its still a thing no timetable on it.
Even valve shifted gears remember when they started going after games to have come to linux either via feral or native ports i do i remember the slides Street Fighter 5 Witcher 3 etc Proton love it or hate it is your option for gaming on linux if you want play something thats not indie or not a game from a two decade old engine.

Quoting: KimyrielleIt's kinda sad when thinking that Valve and Paradox are the last two major publishers still supporting Linux natively...Proton has got to the point where its good enough for most peoples gaming needs. Valve are patching Big blockbuster games with day one patches see cyberpunk Rage 2 and BL 3 so they run on linux.
For me personally it's even more sad, because while I do a lot of business with Valve, I never cared about their own games much. I am just not into shooters (or really anything First Person) and I wouldn't touch that toxic hellhole that's the MOBA community with a ten foot pole, either. And VR is out of the question for me and my motion sickness, too. So unless they're coming up with something dramatically different from what they've done in the past, I am likely not going to care much.
