Linux Mint votes no on Snap packages, APT to block snapd installs

Quoting: g000hWell, it's a good result as far as I'm concerned. Not a fan of alternative packaging systems. I just like to use the main one for the operating system, i.e. APT for Debian (and Debian clones) and RPM for Redhat (and clones).

Looking further into Snap myself, I notice that it adopts an update schedule very similar to Windows 10, i.e. Preventing the end-user from halting updates if they want to do so. Also Snaps introduce a bunch of file system mounts i.e. one extra mount point for each Snap which is active. No need to complain that you can turn this stuff off or hide it if you want to - My point about these two aspects is that it is the default behaviour and it is fiddly to deactivate.
was more a fan of deb packages because well am lazy and the thrill of using the command line for my packages is well and truly over

Quoting: kuhpunktRelease it on several stores then. It's not like it's complicated.
Last I heard it's very complicated. Each store has its own toolset for uploads, its own publishing requirements, its own system for how updates and patches are handled. An indie dev once compared the experience between GOG, itch.io (the easiest) and Steam (the most complicated), but that was before EGS existed and I can't find the article now. But the conclusion was "think carefully before adding another store", so it seems it isn't something you just do on a whim.
That's ridiculous. It's fucking SEGA. Even if the toolsets are a bit complicated... that's no reason to go to just one store. They got a ton of cash. That's it.
Except its not this was Creative Assembly call as it was there call to port the other total war games and alien isolation to linux its why there are no sonic games etc on linux sega have not authorised any linux ports. I do not have the tweet about it anymore but this was a CA lead decision.
SEGA, CA, whatever... fucking tiny indies are able to set up Steam and sell their shit. Saying it's too complicated makes no sense.
oh you don't understand it not difficult its cash and you cant say in the same position you would do the the same exmaple i will give you two million upfront for a year of exclusivity on your game plus i will compensate you for lost sales plus i am going to take less of a cut of your profits. Still going to be noble and say no ?

Quoting: Whitewolfe80Ahh with constant updates for sure but since my library is pretty made up exclusively of single player games I have finished them all except the ones i have no intension of playing like around 120 of my steam games were either free or thought they sounded good at the time. I wish there was a gift option for redeemed keys whether they went to new owners for free or if they sold heavily discounted by valve.
GreenManGaming had a system at one point where you could sell games back. I liked that one a lot.
Damn wish that was still about

Microsoft president admits they were wrong on open source

This is why I don't evangelize to Windows users much. I want people to use Linux/GNU (and specifically Fedora) because it's a good OS and the user likes how it works. I don't want Linux land flooded with 'permissive open source' Windows users that want to do Windows in Linux. I want to help people learn to do Linux things better, not Windows things better on Linux. That's my personal Linux learning goal as well. That doesn't mean we don't adopt smart ideas from outside, but that we blaze our own way not follow Microsoft, Google, or Apple.[/quote]If windows was open I could correct code that i didn't want and maintain the full compatibility with direct x 11, I would strip out about 3 to 4 gb of the code as I believe using the lite template I could get the install size down to about 1gb while maintaining functionality for games. But sure I would love to help improve Linux but i cant because all of my knowledge base in terms of coding is based on the windows kernel now there are some cross overs but not many.

Quoting: epsaavedraI trust Microsoft as much as I trust Google, Oracle or Apple, which is to say very, very little. Unless there is a huge show of support, like opensourcing Windows 7 or Visual Studio, then I'm inclined to think this is just marketing talk.
I ll be honest if they open sourced windows 7 i would go back to running windows exclusively as it was windows 10 that got me on linux full time.
