So... they're releasing on Linux because "CryEngine supports Linux"? Since when? I was sure that CryEngine support was why Star Citizen was cagey about Linux support.

Crytek only posted jobs about Linux in July last year. Surely they're just suddenly "supporting Linux" already??

Minecraft Gets Its First Development Snapshot In 2014
10 Jan 2014 at 11:11 am UTC

You hit the nail on the head with both monster types and exploration. It's been a while since I've felt like hitting up Minecraft knowing that the best you can hope to find in your survival maps is a temple. It just lacks adventure and surprise.

Still, I do keep a couple of servers still running for my kids to play about on and they love the creative modes, so Minecraft still has legs. A lot of legs.

Killing Floor 2 Leaked By Steam, Turns Out To Be A DLC UPDATED
9 Jan 2014 at 6:14 pm UTC

Ah, gutted that it's just DLC. I've sunk over 200 hours into KF, easily the game I've played most, ever. I'd love to see a sequel, natively written for Linux from day one, instead of a bolted-on UE3 port with texture glitches like we have now.

Hopefully it's still in the works though.

First Generation Steam Machines Revealed
7 Jan 2014 at 4:27 pm UTC

I'm gutted that there was no CS:GO or Portal 2 announcements. CES wouldn't have been the place to necessarily plug them directly, but I thought that a general "Steam Machine" announcement would have coincided with those titles at least.

Sad. And a wee bit worrying.

I'm just dying to play Stanley Parable.

To The Moon 2D RPG Soon To Drop On Linux

I watched this with interest when it was announced. Great news!

Storm United MMO FPS To Support Linux With Interview & Exclusive Screen-Shot
4 Jan 2014 at 7:46 pm UTC

I still have an active annual subscription to Planetside 2 which dropped me nearly £70 back in February 2013. I haven't logged it to it since June. I want to, but it's Windows only, and... yeah, I haven't logged into it since June. So an alternative like Storm Front - ideal. It doesn't look like it has the same depth, which is to be expected given the resources Sony have, but I'm still up for a Resistance 2 type of game and this is looking superb.

Fingers crossed!

Starpoint Gemini 2 Space RPG Could Come To Linux
3 Jan 2014 at 10:34 am UTC

Personally, I prefer a bit more concrete news than "might/could" articles. I find them pretty frustrating. I want to know what I'll be playing in 1, 3 or 6 months, not what some developer would like to do, maybe, if they get time, at some point in the vague future.

However, one advantage to these articles is that if they generate enough "wow, that looks awesome" comments, then perhaps you can point the devs back to the article as evidence of interest in the port. But unless it's something huge (like Metro was), I doubt that'll actually happen.

Have a great new year Linux gamers!

Have an awesome 2014 everyone. Looking forward to some even finer gaming action in my all-Linux home!

NOWHERE A Holistic First Person Experience Has A New Trailer

You know, having spent a bit of time researching this for the Funding Crowd, and now seeing this new video, I still have no idea what this game is going to be!

Secrets of Rætikon Open-World 2D Exploration Game Releases Alpha 9 With Linux Support
23 Dec 2013 at 11:03 am UTC

Yeah, this looks pretty sweet - and we covered it as a Hidden Gem in TFC #23 [External Link] too. It got an absurdly high income for a flexible funding game - over $14k of its $20k target. Great to see it go from strength to strength!
