Quoting: ShmerlDidn't AMD actually work on mining focused cards (Arcturus)? They should release something like that already, so miners would leave gaming cards alone.Arcturus is the Instinct MI100 [External Link].

Quoting: slaapliedjeThere are plenty Atari VCS's on ebay last I looked. A lot of people ordered multiple units hoping Atari Fans would pay a premium...I've been looking, but they're not quite to the price level I want yet ($250+ for a dual core with hyperthreading?). In addition, most are being sold with controllers. I'm actually glad attempts to scalp this product seem to have backfired.

I lucked out and found a DFI industrial itx board on ebay for $100. The Dual core 15W R1505G [External Link] isn't going to win any awards but it's still Ryzen and serves just fine as an always-on machine. Currently rocking 20GBs of ram and a 500GB NVMe + a 1TB Sata ssd. It's the control plane (master) of my cluster.
The 8 core 35W 4750GE enticed me but I cannot find one for sale at a reasonable price. I'd likely have put such a CPU in an itx board or the Asrock Desk Mini. Right now I'm hoping some Atari VCS's will end up on ebay so that I can have more (hopefully cheap) ryzen machines to cluster.

Quoting: ArehandoroI'd be more than interested in building a mini server with the AMD Ryzen 7 5800U 8C/16T Up to 4.4 / 1.9 GHz 20MB Cache and 15 DP Watts. Trying to reduce my energy footprint while still enjoying most of the new features, but I guess there won't be a generic (mini itx) MoBo for that kind of mobile CPU :(You and I share similar goals. I've seen the ASUS PN50 barebones units with the 4300U/4500U/4700U/4800U with price ranges between $300-$600 but even that is out of my budget for my use case for such a system AND that's without storage/ram. It's easy to believe newer and similar units will come with the 5000 series.

Quoting: fearnflavioYeah I'll stick to a custom Shortcut in steam. Don't want to touch epic/legendary more than I have to. I've read about the issues that can arise from using Proton outside of steam.
Quoting: sudoerHard agree. Epic killed Rocket League for me. 404.2 played hours later and all I feel is disappointment now. I have not touched the game since the Epic account requirement was introduced.

I'm going to be trying Legendary (maybe heroic) to hopefully play the free copy of Star Wars battlefront 2 Epic is giving away on the 14th. I'd love to own it on Steam but I don't have enough interest in this iteration of BF (no private servers or custom matches, really???) to want to spend money on it until I know I'll like it.
Rather than mess with Lutris, heroic, and custom proton versions I'm likely to only install the game via Legendary but then run/launch it with Proton on steam, similar to how GamerOS does it.

Getting Linux running properly on Apple M1 Silicon has begun with Asahi Linux

I ended up with my girlfriend's old 2015 13" Macbook Pro Retina as she upgraded and I've struggled to use it once. For one thing, it's an Intel machine . Secondly, it's a mac. I'd install Linux on it in a heartbeat if she hadn't of set a firmware password (prevents booting external devices/entering recovery) that she's since forgotten. As I'm the original purchaser of the device I can have apple remove it but due to the state of the world it's not like I can just walk into an Apple store and have it done promptly. And so, it sits.
Your macbook pro is a 2012 as those were the last models made with DVD drives/upgradable parts. They were still sold through 2013 alongside the new "retina" class models. You can likely run big sur just fine on that machine (Linux even easier!) with a tool like https://github.com/barrykn/big-sur-micropatcher [External Link].

Quoting: kaimanIn theory it's still usable and might even run Big Sur, heaven forbid!Yeah, I feel almost the exact same way. I love the way Apple's machines look and feel but that's as deep as my appreciation goes: Surface level. Every time I'm stuck with macOS I feel limited as if I'm being told how to use my machine (Windows is the same way for me).

Ugh seeing Metro Exodus on sale again without it being available for Linux yet is straight up teasing me at this point. I swear the Linux binary is going to drop AFTER a steam sale concludes. 4A, I just want to give you my money.

Valve puts up Proton 5.13-4 to get Cyberpunk 2077 working on Linux for AMD GPUs

It's about the long term here. Stadia has helped Linux game development 10X what Valve has been able to do thus far in terms of AAA studios developing for/on Linux. While you may never benefit directly from this, its benefits are there.

Yeahhhh...I attempted to start Cyberpunk 2077 on Stadia. The bugs give me major pause and if it were not for the free stadia premier edition deal for purchasing CP2077 I'd have refunded it. It's not like I don't have a bajillion other games in my backlog to play though first (cough: The witcher 3). Performance on Stadia in either mode is rather impressive all things considered.
Oh well, by the time this game is worth it I will hopefully have a 6900 XT. I'll likely re-buy the game on steam around that time if it improves.
