It should be illegal that if you buy something, that it requires the cloud to be functional.
If this initiative goes through and actually gets some results then i really hope it's just a first step towards gaining back the ownership on things we buy, not just games.

Unlike others here, my Windows usage went up drastically this year. It was all "thanks" to Satisfactory not really working out for me in Linux and i had to play it in Windows.
While it is supposed to work just fine on Linux i guess my CPU (5600X) just was not enough to keep up and i was getting very regular and annoying frametime spikes whatever graphics settings i used to a point it felt like the game was running at 30fps in mid-game. Frametimes were a lot better on Windows until the very end game, i guess wine etc. just has a bit more CPU overhead on Linux.

Deep survival game Vintage Story has another massive update approaching in v1.20

Quoting: GuestSeems like a pretty game where the focus is on farming and building instead of combat.
It doesn't have to be a fighting sim but some effort must be put into combat mechanics even with focus being something else.
Last time i tried this game i died 3 times during my first night because once i stepped into fire and didn't even notice my health going down. Pain soundeffect is so subtle and there is no other indication on the screen other than slim healthbar going down. Other 2 times i was attacked by wolves from behind and the same thing happened, i just lost health until i died. There is no kickback or any movement or indication on the screen. This is very bad design.
Trying to fight enemies feels the same, no feedback whatsoever. Even some graphical and sound effects with kickback would go a long way. I'm not even asking for a complex mechanic like stamina, regen, critical hits, abilities, potions etc.

Celebrating 6 years since Valve announced Steam Play Proton for Linux

What makes me wonder... is it possible that one guy is to "blame" here? Valve knew what wine was but did not spend much effort into making games compatible with it and tried to get companies to release native ports instead. When dxvk became a huge success Valve seemingly instantly jumped onto that bandwagon and released proton (by hiring the one guy behind dxvk afaik) Is it possible that when DXVK released, some guys in Valve went on like "Hey this is awesome, we should take this route to compatibility instead" and that's how it started?

Philip (doitsujin) Rebohle might be the person behind all this by being a Linux user and excellent programmer who just wanted to play a DX11 anime game that did not work on Wine!

Factory building sim shapez 2 is launching in August

Quoting: EhvisAnd I do wonder if the new stuff is enough to make it feel like a whole new game. The demo of Shapez2 definitely felt more like a reskin. The two layer stuff didn't add anything substantial and the rest was just superficial.
It still is a game where you mine, reconfigure and deliver different shapes. Not much can be done to fundamentally change that. (wires will be awesome) For me the demo already was a whole new game built around the same concept. Expect the full version to be similar, just with even more ways to manipulate and transport same base shapes (plus some surprise in the end game).

I have been following the development process for about a year and it has been quite a nice ride. Developers are nice and actually listen the testers... Some of my late night rants about the shortcomings of the game have had real affect on the game. (including feedback from other people of course) While this can also be a bad thing when developers give random people too much control, it's not the case here. They still have a clear vision to follow and only allow changes that fall within that but make the game more accessible and fun.

Deep survival game Vintage Story adds cave-ins, improved first-person, lots more animals

It's one of those games i always plan to start playing again but never do...

The game itself is amazing! Loads of content, challenging, story is interesting, looks amazing even though it is just another block world but they somehow nailed it.
Yet, i feel the whole "the world is a staircase" is getting a bit old and is a bit offputting. Another huge issue is the combat mechanic, or the lack of it. Every encounter just feels dull and seems as if you are fighting with cardboard cutouts.

No true next-gen Steam Deck for 'a few years' Valve say

Right now it wouldn't even make sense to release another one because hardware is not progressed enough to be worth it. I'd expect SD2 to be at least twice as powerful with the same, or better battery life. OLED screens and such are nice to have but not worth to develop a new device around it. Maybe there will be OLED upgrade available at one point instead?

Factorio is about to increase in price so be quick

Them being annoyed by people who want to get games at a reasonable price just means they aren't getting my money. I know i would love this game and current price would even be worth it, i still won't buy it unless there's a sale!

It's their decision, if they want more money with less players then it's up to them. I prefer companies who eventually let everyone to have a go at the game when it's popularity and sales have gone down.

Portal with RTX released free on Steam

Surprisingly it starts up with my 6900XT but barely gets 8 fps and there are so many graphical glitches that makes this slideshow unwatchable.
Also installed Windows just to try this out and got similar performance (8fps) but with no graphical glitches. Anyway, if you own an AMD GPU then stay well away from it!

Survival game Vintage Story adds 200+ new blocks, lightning, water physics update

This game needs no cinematic mod. The graphics and environment is astonishing considering the limitations. I remember when i first played it i was constantly amazed just how good devs managed to make a blocky game look. For example, sunny yet frosty mornings in autumn actually did feel like cold yet beautiful, just like in real life.

One thing that did annoy me to no end in this game was fighting mechanic. Every fight with an enemy felt like hitting a cardboard with a stick. Even Minecraft (thing that people usually compare it with) has it better with critical hits and feedback system. I wish that devs tackled that problem soon so it would attract a lot more people! Other than that the game is amazing. It has some survival realism like seasons and the need to store food for the winter and etc. But it is not too tedious and can be quite fun. Building mechanic is also pretty good, it can be as simple as building a house out of 1m3 cubes, just like in MC but also has a feature to chisel any block that turns one 1m3 cube into 16x16x16 blocks (with different materials) adding a hell of a lot more detail if you are up for it to do it manually.

By the way, if anyone is up for setting up a GOL server, i would try this game again.
