Well phones auto turn off screen, don't have button feedback.
There are convenient issues with touch screen method of doing things.

One could certainly MAKE their own device with buttons and a touch screen in background, but it comes down to if you feel its worth your time and if your tech savvy enough to get all the bits together, probably also need 3d printing done.
Android has the option to not turn off the screen as long as the device is hooked to a power source. I think you can also have it always vibrate on touches.

For me though, the question is what kind of (FLO) software is there for such things? Can you effortlessly and quickly make menus to run arbitrary commands? And how would those things even integrate?

There is still also a matching Java Edition version luckily. https://minecraft.fandom.com/wiki/Java_Edition_1.17 [External Link]

I would try it out gladly and see whether it has also implemented the cutting edge weapons of gender, PC and social movements (like BLM etc) in todays world and some more that is yet to be expected in the future.
Sorry for necroposting (I'm catching up to interesting posts; been real busy for a few months).

Why do you want to discuss your political conspiracy theories in a community for GNU/Linux gaming? (By implying that gender, political correctness and other social movements (like BLM) are Illuminati manipulations of society rather than mostly real responses to mostly real injustices by mostly real people).

On topic: Boo, developers are doing a fantasy world with shadow organizations ruling the world, but decide to make those magical organizations exclusively white old men (at least according to the trailer). Where will black little girls get their role models for social manipulation attempts? This is also contributing to the vilification of white old men.

(All of the above is sincere, albeit cheeky at times. None of the above is sarcasm)

Quoting: KimyrielleDell has been offering a few more reasonably priced options with preinstalled Linux for a while here. Not sure if that offer is available in Europe, though.
Dell's offerings are usually US only.
I actually got into Linux entirely because of saving a 100 euros by getting a Dell laptop (~500 eur) and with Ubuntu off some local retailer in Estonia.

The Sunday Section - keeping up with some missed Linux and gaming bits

I have been using Ferdi for about half a year - ever since the Facebook plugin for Pidgin stopped working for me .

Ferdi sure is heavy (Electron), but it still serves a function for me - I like having a separate window for chats and if I need more RAM or CPU for other processes, I can individually unload some of the services/tabs or close all of Ferdi.

In my case, I am not receiving notifications from Facebook messenger, only Telegram. And sometimes the dark mode doesn't work, but that is a 2-click fix (reload service/tab).

Definitely looking forward to trying using more services when I get a beefier computer. But until then - I miss Pidgin with its light perfection - well... if you ignore the lack of emoji reactions and some messages with links disappearing.

Speaking of cartridge support - does anyone know if there are there any promising, more open (open-source or even open-hardware) alternatives on the horizon?

Because if not, then I would jump on the gun here and get some perks on the Kickstarter - playing my old cartridges (especially MP via a browser) would be awesome!

Xwayland work for hardware accelerated NVIDIA support has been merged in
17 Apr 2021 at 6:58 am UTC

Quoting: redneckdrowI'm really glad it's finally happening, but I wonder just how necessary the switch to Wayland actually is. Dedoimedo [External Link] released a rather thoughtful article on the subject, and I tend to agree with him on several points.

Warning! Grumpy lecturing ahead:
Spoiler, click me

Yes X's old code is a possible attack vector, but I don't know of any attacks ever targeting the display server in all the time I've been using Linux. Most attacks/malware seem to be aimed at headless servers and tend to be tailor made to exploit out of date installations. Besides, Wayland could have its own security concerns to deal with.

I don't get the need to reinvent the wheel here.

The desktop user just needs to be careful not to run scripts without checking them for things that look out of place. They're typically pathetically obvious even to people like me who know next to nothing about scripting. Also, never symlink libraries or put old libraries in /usr/lib or other global directories, that can lead to some real haberdashery.

Also, if you can help it, don't run GUI programs as root (pkexec doesn't work correctly with every program) anyway. Wayland does seem to protect the user from this gotcha, from what I read; I'll give it that at least.

Is there any reason to use Wayland other than the perception of security for the end user? I can't get a straight answer. Does XWayland still have any noticeable overhead when gaming? I'll give it a try when the new NVIDIA driver goes stable.

All things considered, I'll give Wayland a fair shake. I'll probably post my experience in the forums. If you've read this far, thank you. It took me 30 minutes to type this with my one good hand, and I appreciate it.
I agree with that article that the end-user experience is critical and that maybe we shouldn't deploy Wayland until it is 99.999% ready. But I disagree with the idea that Wayland exists due to re-writing things for the sake of re-writing things.

For me, the main bit is what Dedoimedo actually mentioned in their article - maintainability. Things that are not maintainable take huge amounts of extra effort to fix, improve and even keep working. So that is a perfectly good reason for redoing ancient software with outdated paradigms.

Quoting: RoosterIt's a pity this doesn't have multiplayer, as I see a big potential for it in this game.
That aside, yes: this could be a blast for streaming, will definitely watch if someone streams it.
Yeah, because of the art style I expected it to be even likely to have local (split-screen) multiplayer.
