OpenRazer 3.0.0 expands with many new Razer devices supported on Linux

Quoting: PangaeaUnfortunately my mouse is messed up on the wheel buttonpress, and it only very rarely registers, which is quite annoying. Was in touch with their support on the same day I bought it, but was told to send it in, halfway around the planet, which I didn't bother with. Would have left me without a mouse for god knows how long, plus shipping costs.
If you don't want to risk experimenting with it yourself, I recommend looking for a repair shop or hackerspace to help you with that. If it is very valuable you might want to wait for some buildup of trust with less valuable repairs first.

Linux vendor System76 releases the Pangolin, a full AMD laptop

Quoting: HamishI am assuming they mean RX Vega graphics.

Does System76 solder in the RAM like Lenovo does now? Because that just horrifies me.

EDIT: Nope, RAM is fully upgradeable with two DDR4 slots. Sounds great.
No, they don't. I am going for the european version of System76 and that is TuxedoComputers [External Link] but I like more the carbon magnezium and more compact(but better CPU performance) TuxedoComputers Pulse 15 Gen 1 [External Link] . Tomorow I will order it as a work laptop
I went for the Aura 15. Should receive it soon I think. I don't remember why I opted for that one over Pulse 15 - maybe because of the USB-C monitor capability - I do use a USB-C dock at work.

Ludusavi seems like a pretty good open source game save backup tool

I wish it supported backing up game configs as well. But that can get complicated between devices with different configs (e.g. screen sizes or performance settings). Still an initial sync would often be nice.

Does anyone know how it works with Flatpaks and Snaps? Is it easy?

Quoting: KohlyKohlAwesome find!

The name is going to be really hard to remember though.
Ludus - Latin for game. (Similar to Ludum Dare).
Savi - From "save", I presume.

Quoting: minkiuHere's hoping the my laptop doesn't die until Thunderbolt 4/USB4 is in an AMD laptop like this one, I want to be able to plug an eGPU if desired. I think a nice laptop like this one + egpu is the future (for me) :)

Else I'll have to get a desktop.
That and I really like the idea of standardized chargers for all devices.

Standalone Steam Controller driver and UI 'SC Controller' gets a sweet small upgrade

Quoting: grigiI've had really good experience with AppImage, its a great generic solution for stand-alone desktop apps.
It would be nice to manage them as apps that get updates, etc... but it's currently the lowest friction way to get a complex desktop app available for any Linux distro.
Lowest friction for developer - yes.
The extra effort of maintenance has been shifted from dev to user instead.

Quoting: PhlebiacNice to see it getting updates and a new release. The Fedora builds only go up to 30, and it doesn't have the required dependencies in 33 - looks like it still needs obsolete Python stuff?
Problem: conflicting requests
- nothing provides gnome-python2-rsvg needed by sc-controller-0.4.8-10.1.x86_64
- nothing provides pylibacl needed by sc-controller-0.4.8-10.1.x86_64

Quoting: AkienFor the reference, there's a WIP Python 3 port
Will that possibly be upstreamed? Or is it more likely upstream will abandon Python altogether?
Easiest solution would be to use the Snap that /u/mcphail seems to have built or the AppImage. Both are cross-distro solutions either already working for you or easy to set up.

Quoting: whizseI think you mean Wayland instead of Cairo [External Link]?
Oh, man, you're totally right. Computy stuff has too many names. And, you know, I may be exaggerating the difficulty; maybe they'll get support.
Ahh I do have a (similarly vague) understanding of Wayland. Cool. Thanks for the summary anyway.

I think I remember reading that KDE has been doing new stuff only for Wayland for a while now to push it along.

Does anyone know how much extra is the shipping and taxes to EU?

I don't know much about Cairo. I read the Wikipedia article, but care to share something about relevance to AMD or Nvidia or about Cairo's future importance?

From the regularity of roughly this comment every single time there's an article about System76, I gotta figure at this point they have to be leaving a bunch of money on the table by not doing some models with AMD.
Either that or it is trivial to write amotional anonymous comments online without any backing in actions.
