Eureka offers a new option for Doom mappers

For what it is worth, here is the map I made while testing Eureka:

This took about an hour and a half to build and test, so do not expect anything that elaborate. The map itself is quite difficult as you have absolutely no cover, so you have to be fast on your feet and make sure you do not get stuck on trees

Steam to become an Open Beta next week!
13 Dec 2012 at 5:37 pm UTC

Quoting: "liamdawe, post: 7096, member: 1"The beta for me is very stable now so it's good to see them open this up to the public, it really will be interesting to see over the next year exactly how it affects the Linux landscape, as it already has by bringing us some higher profile games like Killing Floor to Linux.

Not to sound too much like a buzzkill but in the case of Killing Floor the Tripwire guys have been friendly to Linux for years (they started as UT2004 modders) but they could not make a port because of Steamworks. Now this may sound a little simplistic, but you could even say that Valve kept the title from us for three years (even longer for Red Orchestra). Croteam of course also has a Linux history, and they also said the main thing that was keeping them back was because that they were now using Steamworks.

It will be interesting to see if it attracts some more devs that were not simply kept from the platform because of Steam, but rather are actually attracted to it due to the interest surrounding it.

Playing with EDuke3D will result in a superior experience though. Although boss battles are ridiculously easy with mouse-look. :D

Revenge of the Titans updates!

I assume the HIB entry will receive the update though, right?

0 A.D. new website and next release imminent!
10 Dec 2012 at 6:22 pm UTC

0 A.D. is available in the official Fedora repositories starting with F16.

Bloody hell, how did that slip by me?

It would be interested to see this game pop up on places like Desura though, maybe when it is a bit more stable.

Quoting: "liamdawe, post: 7016, member: 1"Agreed I will make the comments have stuff like avatars :)

About that, I have a few concerns with that part of the new website in general. I usually much prefer websites where you get a base article and then go to a separate forum thread where you post comments rather than just a standard comment box. It tends to cut down on garbage posting and actually allows for more proper discussion on a topic (or in the case of Phoronix, it makes it so that the discussions are not 100% pure gobshite).

I like much of what is going on there, especially as an (occasional) content producer as what you are doing does make it look a lot more friendly and professional for potential article/review/interview writers. But that point does concern me a bit. I do not know if anyone is with me on that though.

Regarding how the comments work - will you still be able to post them from the forum interface, or will it just be a regular type comment section?

EDIT: I see me and Xpander were having the same thoughts at the same time...

Cheese Talks To Desurium Contributors (about Desurium - what a surprise)

No, and I did worry about that intent being brodcasted. I just meant at the idea of the situation we are in is still amusing in an evil way.

Obviously someone with a real interest in Windows issues would be very helpful though. But the people who are doing it out of obligation is not what I was sniggering at. I just meant that I hope you will be able to get another passionate contributor.

Yeah, well, hopefully someone who really does care and is willing to invest in the work will come on board at some point.

*snickers evilly* :p
