I bought it in 2020 and don't remember any DRM back then. Can you elaborate?
From what I recall you need to create an account and login when installing the game and then authenticate with their servers each time you want to play the game.

Last I looked this game had pretty annoying DRM, any chance this has been removed?

Keyboard looks terrible, no trackpoint, no physical buttons for touchpad. I doubt I could use this for even one day without tossing it out the window. It's too bad because they have a lot right and I would love a laptop with coreboot.

There is no chance I would fund a free-to-play game.

I wish I could buy a motherboard like this with an onboard AMD cpu in a standard layout. Would make a great low power server board for around the house.

Project Zomboid has big plans for 2022 and beyond, with NPCs on the way

I hope adding NPC's doesn't ruin the experience like it did in 7days2die. Over there NPC's (traders really) broke the economy and scarcity of items and are a total immersion breaker. It's still mostly fine if you just avoid them, though some items are harder to obtain than before if you do so. NPC's have lots of potential but I fear it will be very hard to do good.

(Yeah, I know you need an account to pre-order it at the moment, but that might not always be the case whenever Valve is finally able to get on top of supply issues. And people could always get an account in the future after it's released and they've seen reviews/demonstrations from a friend/etc.)
Is there such a thing as a gamer that doesn't have a Steam account nowadays?!
Console gamers ?
Mobile gamers. Who apparently make up the majority these days, as hard to believe as it is.
I don't have a Steam account, and I don't do mobile or console gaming. I just don't much care for DRM. There are dozens of us!

I imagine this system uses too much power for my taste, details are a bit sparse but it comes with a 90W power supply. All I want to do is watch video on my TV, I don't play games on it, so it doesn't make sense to run a system that draws this much power. Intel has systems that are ~15W, but AMD doesn't have anything competing in this space.

Also way to expensive.

Trouble is brewing over on GOG due to the HITMAN release needing online for some features

Quoting: GamewizardWell in the case of Heroes of Hammerwatch it technically doesn't even have LAN play strictly speaking at least my Steam copy has no option listed LAN for MP it only offers the active server list. Still not sure why the devs dropped LAN play for it though as that was one of the huge initial draws for the first game was it had both LAN based play and single machine co-op options. The lack of them has really turned me off of Heroes of Hammerwatch as couch co-op with a buddy was how I most enjoyed the first game.
Heroes of Hammerwatch does basically have LAN, but Galaxy doesn't allow you to do matchmaking over LAN so you can't setup the game unless everyone is logged in. There is no set of official servers, all play is local (official servers would be worse of course). There is a gray-area Galaxy emulator out there you can use, which gives you LAN matchmaking and the game works fine on LAN with no internet. It would also be trivial for Galaxy to allow this mode of operation.

I think it is obvious they designed in the lack of LAN matchmaking specifically so you would have to be logged in to Galaxy, likely in an attempt to prevent piracy. We all got a worse version of the game, requiring internet access and accounts before we can play. At any moment our ability to play can be taken away. This is just one example of DRM on GOG, there hundreds of games there just like this.

I wish I could now be shocked and disillusioned with GOG, but this shit has been going on for years. For example, Heroes of Hammerwatch cannot be played over LAN in multiplayer, requiring an active Galaxy login. This is for LAN, there is no official server, so why do I need to ask permission to play and why can't an offline version allow direct connect or do LAN discovery? Anyway, I suggest searching around for a offline Galaxy emulator so you can play your games on LAN. They clearly have redefined DRM-Free to mean DRM-Lite.

Even that's not enough now, so the DRM is in single player as well.

It's still somewhat better than the situation with Steam or Epic store so for the most part they are my go to store, but I'm not exactly thrilled with how things are going.
