KDE developer suggests Plasma needs to be simpler by default

Quoting: KallestofelesMaybe one day, in a perfect world, KDE would finally become stable enough to daily drive it. But I guess that's besides the point.
Running it daily for many, many years.
Don't know what you're talking about.
Although I too have used KDE for like five years now without looking back, it is far more unstable than other DEs. I have installed it on three different machines (Kubuntu), and I still get frequent crashes with Dolphin, the plasma dashboards or even sometimes software I didn't even know were running (like the Bluetooth applet which I since deactivated). I never had such issues with Mateo or LXDE.

I'm not complaining though, the overall experience is really good and KDE really suits my tastes ! But still, yes, I wouldn't call it "perfectly stable". Or is it my distro (Kubuntu) ?
Kubuntu is not a good example of KDE integration. Try KDE Neon if you want a Ubuntu based distro with a stable KDE.

Wolfire versus Valve antitrust lawsuit gets dismissed

Quoting: TheSHEEEPAs others have pointed out, that's not a choice that especially small devs have.
Many gamers quite simply demand a Steam release or they won't buy a game. So, what choice does a developer have here, really?
Lose more money than you should on a sale or lose the entire sale. Hmm...
They can also publish on Steam and sell keys by them self, reducing the 30% cut that Steam takes.

The scenario is definitely far away from the "no choice" you try to depict.

Quoting: TheSHEEEPKeep in mind that taxes go on top of that, in the EU that's about 20% gone additionally (unless you add 20% to the price in VAT countries, which I don't think anyone really does).
So from the get-go you lose 50% of value. Ouch. I'd be pissed about that, too.
That's completely no sense. VAT is applies on the final price, so the 20% cut you mention applies for both Valve and the developer. Either way, VAT is a tax for the consumer, not the producer. So, using a linear cut on the income is wrong (or maybe you should get to talk with your accountant).

Also, in many countries the VAT retention is made by the local banks/credit companies. For example, in Argentina you pay the price that Steams mentions and in your credit card summary you get extra items with the taxes.

System76 patches APT for Pop!_OS to prevent users breaking their systems

Quoting: dubigrasuYou mean the one with the mouse showing in one place and clicking in another? Yes, I had that one too on AMD, I'm not even surprised when it shows up, "oh, that thing again".
As for workarounds, yes, I also use various scripts to force my monitors to do what I want depending on the specific task. But they are simple tasks, and all this xrandr brouhaha should not be needed. Nvidia/Amd/whatever, is a hassle enough that I'm just better with a single monitor.
If xrandr can fix your issue, then the problem is your DE, not the driver. The weird issue to mention on the second guy is the offset of the screen.

Quoting: x_wingBTW, is certainly very important to also notice the issues that they other guy from LTT had with mint. The shit show that was his UI due to Nvidia open source drivers is also a big heads up (yet another fuck you to Nvidia I guess).
If is about the multimonitors issues that he had, that's a common Linux problem, Nvidia or not, with the exact same type of fuckups that Luke had, wrong monitor order, weird mouse problems, plus games starting wherever the hell they want.
Being AMD user myself I gave up on using two monitors, because is yes, a shit show. They work most of the time (sort of) except when you need them the most. I just went through a good part of the day cursing at my two screens while trying to make them do what I want (basically having OBS running on the second monitor):

Can I please start the game on the big monitor? No.
Then at least can I move it after? No, I don't want that.
How about you let me to... No, I don't feel like.
Not even?...No.
What if?...No.
But?...No.

So is fuck you AMD or Linux I guess, just to be fair?
On Windows I can connect two monitors or more, and use them as you see fit, they simply obey you. On Linux is a fight between you and them. Of course, is Linux, and you have ways to beat them into submission, but that's beside the point.

(I guess it shows that I had a bad day)
The bug that he got was far away from an issue with the monitor selection. Something was very wrong in the driver.

Regarding the issues with monitor selection, I don't recall the last time that KDE gave me problems with that. But when it did, using xrandr scripts with the proper setup did the trick. For the games, I normally set the primary monitor and if for some reason it starts in the secondary, I simply drag the game to the main panel (alt + left click & drag).

Quoting: BielFPsHow influential is this Linus guy in general (outside US/UK)? I never watched anything from him, but judging by how many people are talking about this video makes me thing that this could unfortunately scary new user out of trying a linux distro (or worse, advocating against it).
He is by far the biggest tech youtuber. Linus Sebastian is not exactly a Linux friendly PC user, but in his team he has a guy named Anthony that is an advocate of Linux OS.

Even though his installation went bad, I doubt that any of this videos will give a bad reputation to our OS. The recent coverage of Linux by LTT has helped a lot in order to break many myth around our OS, in fact they probably helped a lot in order to remove the old "Linux is for servers, not gaming" motto.

Quoting: sudoerMeanwhile everything seemed to work fine for him with Manjaro, which he should have chosen from the get-go, because of newest kernels, newest drivers, for newest hardware, taking a hint from Valve having chosen Arch for the same reason.
I just remembered that he end up without sound in his Manjaro install. So no, not even Manjaro is error free (mainly with the weird setup he has in his home).

Quoting: berarmaThis is a distraction move. Where's the news about the Steam package being fixed and the reason it was published without being tested? Because that's the real issue.
A distraction move? No. Where's the news? This is it. I don't follow Pop for such issues personally to know if a package breaks, no one notified us, and now it's all solved so we've reported on it with details that we have.
TBF, the chances of getting into the same full UI removal was fixed but, as I mentioned, we are not sure if packages installation testing was implemented. I mean, it's cool to make it difficult to break the UI but it would be also cool to never get into an scenario were a user can't install a package.

Good to see that Pop!_OS fixed the issue, but is definitely a QA issue from their part. Although the change to implement seems right, it would also be cool to know if they will work in order to implement a continuous integration testing ticket for some of this packages.

BTW, is certainly very important to also notice the issues that they other guy from LTT had with mint. The shit show that was his UI due to Nvidia open source drivers is also a big heads up (yet another fuck you to Nvidia I guess).

12th Gen Intel Core processors announced with the 'world's best gaming processor'

Which one has the HT, the P one or the E one?:dizzy:
P cores support HT

I'm really expecting to see benchs. Also, it will be cool to see how better is DDR5 vs DDR4 (my guess is that there will not be a big difference).
