Brawlhalla to get Easy Anti-Cheat, dev puts up Beta with EAC working on Linux with Proton

And I recently heard that even with EAC enabled there are still people successfully cheating in Fall Guys?
On the other hand, it's an evolving progress. So first we'd like to have devs enable EAC with the Linux module, then probably Epic and devs will be able to improve EAC including Linux to make it safe(r) for everybody.
And in the end, I hope those settings will become default, and not something devs have to do explicitly. I'd even prefer to have it the other way: devs would have to actively de-activate EAC in the backend for Linux (or Windows :D )

Quoting: GuestI'm curious though I doubt we can ever fully know, how bad is this Proton/WINE implementation of EAC security/privacy-wise? Yeah I know it'd be better to be safe and sandbox or still never play those games at all if concerned, but I'm just wondering if there's insight how it operates.Same, I'm also wondering how effective EAC on Linux is, if it's not running on Kernel level as it does on Windows. I guess only time will tell. But this would also mean that more people will have to switch over to Linux (which is kinda good), if it would be easier to bypass EAC there than on Windows (which would be very bad though).

Warhammer: Vermintide 2 developer responds on Easy Anti-Cheat for Linux with Proton

I trust Proton pretty much nowadays to get games working well, so it wouldn't really be an issue to run the game itself. If it doesn't work, I guess Valve will make it work soon enough as there is probably enough interest in the game, that it needs EAC.

Quoting: scaineI think what they're saying here is that they're investigating NOT banning/kicking people for playing via Proton. BUT, they won't "support" issues you have getting the game running. So if you have a stuttery experience, low performance, broken shaders, etc, then that's tough luck. But crucially, they WILL "support" (they mean "accept", I think) your Proton anti-cheat and let you join in, assuming you can get the game to work.I hope it'll be this way. So you don't get banned, or if you get banned accidentally they'll realize it's a false positive and lift it again, and will be independent to the fact you got the running on Linux.

Well, what is it worth, if they don't officially support it running via Proton?
Let's say they enable it, interested people try it, but get banned? Or will you just be disconnected?
From Destiny 2 we know people don't just get disconnect but get banned.
If they don't support people playing via Linux and Proton and don't lift bans of people who get banned... who will play it then?
Yes, the Steam Deck might change the situation, as it could become a viable "platform"... but with the statement above, I'm worried that the EAC situation might not improve after all.

Looks like Valve sent out quite a lot of Steam Deck developer kits

xrdesktop for turning your desktop into a VR space had a productive Summer

Nice! I'm using xrdesktop pretty regularly to have certain desktop windows in VR, especially during streams a chat window is must have. Some games use mods to get a chat window shown (Synth Riders, Beat Saber), but xrdesktop makes it so you can use it everywhere.
I hope this will be integrated into SteamVR at some point, as there is already the feature on Windows, that you can have any desktop window shown in VR without 3rd party software. This feature is currently missing on Linux.

Clearing up what games will and won't run on the Steam Deck

Oh well, if it's really all just PR wording about not saying in public: yes, the hardware can run all, but our OS won't, so they just skip the OS part... people really will be disappointed. I would be disappointed.
With the "goal" to have every game of the steam catalog being able to run on the Steam Deck, I would understand it that I literally take the deck, as it is, and install any game from the Steam library, and it does work. No installing Windows, no further tinkering around.
Especially as they said, they have made progress with Proton that's not shipped to the public version of Proton. I would understand this as, yes, not all games work as of now with the public Proton version, but they will, when we release our currently much improved version.
But yeah, I see that this could all be taken as, we tested the hardware and all the games run with at least 30 FPS (on either windows or linux, with or without proton). Oof.
I am hyped for the device, as I do expect it to push Linux gaming also on the desktop a lot. Maybe this dream will go poof. Nice bummer to get back on the ground. Proton is still awesome, and Valve will work hard on getting things to run on it. Especially with selling hundred thousands if not even millions of devices. Then also publishers and developers will want to make sure their game runs on it. On the shipped OS. If not native, at least with Proton. It is still the biggest push ever for establishing Linux as a viable gaming platform.

Quoting: strycoreNo, this is a way to integrate with the EGS client itself and does not replace it. You can have a fully native EGS replacement with the Heroic launcher. What Lutris does is allow you to launch individual games from the EGS client.Oh, right on, thanks for clarifying! Well, so far my experience with the EGS through Lutris had been better than with Heroic, so it's totally fine for me as it works really well.
Quoting: strycoreSupport for Itch.io is planned for a future release, with Ubisoft Connect, Battle.net and Origin.Cool!

Nice! Removes the necessity to have the EGS installed via Lutris then.
As Lutris is meant the be the gamelauncher, is it planned to have itch.io integrated as well? Or is that already in and I am blind?
