New OBS Plugin Offers Game Capture Solution on Wayland (for Vulkan renderers)
26 Mar 2021 at 2:51 pm UTC

I've been running the xdg-desktop-portal plugin for OBS for this purpose and on GNOME it's been working quite well. The biggest gripe I have with it is that if you want to do screen capture and switch an application to fullscreen, compositor unredirection will kick in and the screen capture stops updating. Window capture works though, and you can disable unredirection with an extension.

More options is better though and at least on compositors like Sway you cannot use the xdg-desktop-portal window capture yet, so if nothing else, this can help in that use case.

Total War: ROME REMASTERED announced with cross-platform multiplayer

Cross-platform Multiplayer: Players can enjoy cross-platform multiplayer between Windows, macOS and Linux
I wonder if the recent improvements with wine and proton helped them to finally make a cross-platform game port
It helps that they are in control of all versions of the remastered edition. They can intentionally use components that work the same on all platforms. The problems they've cited in the past with cross-platform multiplayer have been that they cannot change the Windows version to be compatible with the Linux and Mac ports and they cannot replicate the Windows behaviour on other platforms.

Richard Stallman returns to the Free Software Foundation amid calls for FSF resignations

Quoting: GuestThe only thing he does that could harm the reputation of the FSF are his uncompromising views on free software. None of the risible accusations mentioned here have anything to do with such views. It is about nonsense only woke assholes care about. If anything that outburst may make him more popular because most people hate woke culture and people.
Yet the only reason the FSF has managed to get any mainstream media spotlight at all recently is because of RMS getting kicked out and then taken back in. So not only are they failing to do relevant advocacy during a time when proprietary systems are causing incredibly relevant mainstream controversies, they are only getting the spotlight when RMS's laundry list of hot takes irrelevant to free software are aired. And I assure you, no matter how loudly some people will cry "cancel culture!" and call RMS "based" or whatever, this is no ticket to fame for him or the FSF.

The leadership position at FSF is fundamentally a PR role and regardless of what he has intended to say with his statements in the past, he's shown to not be very good at PR or picking his battles. That on its own is a good enough reason to replace him with someone that can convey the ideals of the FSF and the free software movement without tanking the reputation of these organizations and movements. All the positive change he's able to effect he could accomplish outside of these leadership roles.

The developer of Rise to Ruins is absolutely mad and has secured funding for their games

It is a crazy story, and I think the article even missed out on one of the craziest bits. Not only did the developer give up on an avionics job at Lockheed Martin to make their own indie game, they did so after just a year of learning how to program in Java. And then they went onto study for a degree in a non-programming field concurrently to writing the game, so probably no learning software engineering principles there either.

It's basically a story of a series of massive all-in gambles that somehow all worked out. This man is an absolute mad lad and a credit to the industry.

The GoD Unit is a brain-tickling first-person physics puzzle game out now

Word of warning for Wayland users, the game seems to try to do something very borked when entering fullscreen or fullscreen windowed modes and can promptly crash your entire session, at least on AMD hardware. It seems to launch fine if you can coax it into windowed mode first, but you will need to do it through Xorg since the game seemed to default to fullscreen windowed.

Sway, GNOME and gamescope running under Xorg all ended up with the session getting locked up and AMD gfx ring timeouts in dmesg. Gamescope + Xorg combo managed to "recover" when the game eventually crashed, but all window textures were corrupted and you were essentially forced to reboot. This could be a driver bug somewhere, but I have never before seen a game do something like this, so I'm inclined to believe it's at least doing something unexpected to trigger these sorts of effects.

Quoting: dziadulewiczHmm? Who's legal aid and bail are you talking about?
Presumably whoever the NAACP and the Community Bail Fund happened to give assistance to, considering those organizations were where the Racial Justice and Equality bundle funds went to. So, most likely to people that couldn't meet bail or afford legal defense otherwise.
I didn't know that concentrating on skin color advances the removal of racism. Very confusing, man. Or could you still elaborate to me on how this approach works?

Morgan Freeman once said when asked by a reporter on the issue of racism; "stop talking about it".
I too believe that when firefighters go put out the fires, they should spray water equally between all of the houses they pass, so as to not make anyone feel left out. Also, who's concentrating on skin colour? I simply said I was fine with Itch supporting some charities that provide help with legal stuff and bail. So it would seem that it is you that is bringing skin colour into this, my dude.

Julius Caesar once said when crossing the Rubicon: "The die has been cast".

Ain't that the truth! Most people now are just too afraid (of being labeled as something) and will not step up to the mainstream media narrative ....
Or maybe people in general are kinda just fine with a massive bundle that has a ton of good games for dirt cheap prices and the money goes towards legal aid and bail? I know, it's a pretty wild idea.
