Quoting: officerniceFeedback: stop using electron.
Well good news, it's not Electron!

I agree though, electron isn't a good choice for an application of this nature.
Just for completeness, it's built with .NET / C# and they helpfully included their write-up on why they made this choice, directly in the repo [External Link].

DRM lease protocol support finally merged for GNOME Wayland - great for VR fans

Quoting: ElectricPrismThe use-case isn't obvious to me. Maybe I'm just tired.

So this allows you to play VR Games on Gnome Wayland? Is that it or is there something more to this like a Gnome VR Desktop or something.
That should be it, yes. Currently, starting up (e.g.) SteamVR while using Gnome on Wayland won't work, it won't pass on the display output to the VR headset; with this new work merged, it will.

Just a quick note for anyone wondering about the general support of the DRM Lease protocol: it is already supported in KDE on Wayland, as well as by wlroots-based Wayland compositors (Sway, Hyprland and LabWC). Steam has a help page [External Link] with a bit more info.

Quoting: CybolicUhm, those terms.... (emphasis mine)
By entering this content (e.g., photo, video, text, etc.), You understand and agree that the Sponsor and anyone acting on behalf of the Sponsor or its respective licensees, successors, and assigns, shall have the right, where permitted by law, to print, publish, broadcast, distribute, and use in any media now known or hereafter developed, in perpetuity and throughout the World, without limitation, your entry, name, portrait, picture, voice, likeness, image, statements about the Campaign, and biographical information for news, publicity, information, trade, advertising, public relations, and promotional purposes without any further compensation, notice, review, or consent.
Surely that can't be legal? Signing over the rights to one's name, likeness and voice in perpetuity in order to enter a contest?
These are the default terms for each Gleam.io giveaway. Gleam.io is a platform for creating such giveaways and it allows for designing actions such as "record yourself saying why you love our brand best". Rest assured, nothing like that is the case here. What is collected first and foremost are emails to send info about prizes won as well as social media profile names to confirm that the action was performed (follow on Twitter etc.)
I understand the intended purpose, I'm just fairly surprised that the conditions don't say something along the lines of "shall have the right [...] to your name, [etc.] within the context of the Campaign" instead of a blanket statement that could include anything.

As someone who has never played one of these games before, I can't say that trailer did a good of convincing me to pick it up; it did leave me confused though, so that's something!

Valve faces a £656 million lawsuit in the UK for 'overcharging 14 million PC gamers'
12 Jun 2024 at 10:01 pm UTC Likes: 3

Quoting: williamjcmIn the case of point #2, I'd like to mention there's a British game that actually allows this: Talisman Digital Edition (by Nomad Games). You can buy DLCs for the game on Android, iOS, GOG, or Switch, and use them with the Steam version just fine, as long as they're registered to your Nomad Games account. And except for the Switch version (Nintendo doesn't like games accessing DLCs bought from outside Nintendo's system), same the other way around, too. Bought a DLC on Steam ? You can access it from the mobile game, or the GOG version.

And Valve has been okay with this for years already.
And even outside of games that tie DLC to user accounts, there are plenty of visual novels that sell their "+18" DLC on their own site, outside of Steam, which can then be added to the game no matter where the user bought it - including Steam.

So far, I haven't seen any credible points in this lawsuit.

SteamVR for Linux gets "experimental improvements to async support"

Finally! It's been quite some time since I last tried to use my Index, but for a long time I kept getting soft-locked by the "looping 'updating' behaviour" - even when removing all my workshop subscriptions - until I finally just gave up; so this is a very welcome fix to see!
