Xbox Cloud Gaming (xCloud) rolls out to everyone and it works on Linux

Quoting: einherjarI just ask myself, when will Valve get it's ass off the couch and offers cloud gaming … ?
While Valve does not offer cloud gaming, they do offer a pretty solid streaming solution that I have found works fine over a WireGuard VPN tunnel. Sadly, setting up such a tunnel setup does (currently) require a bit of networking knowledge and other geeky skills to get running proper. The advantage once set up though is that I can play all my Steam games pretty much anywhere I have a tolerable enough Internet connection, as long as I've left my PC running at home with Steam up and running.

Quoting: morbiusI was thinking about buying this game during this discount … but after reading the previous comment, I've decided not to bother.
On the one hand, I'm sorry if I turned you off to a game that may very well work fine for you, despite it failing for me; But on the other hand, "you're welcome" for potentially saving you hours of possible install hassle and/or a painful refund process.

That having been said; On the bright side, these days there's piles and piles of great Linux-friendly developers and publishers these days publishing a wide variety of really fantastic games that run across Linux, Mac, and Windows, so we're not at any real shortage of great entertainment on Linux these days at least.

Gotta love Liam and crew for keepin' us all well informed about what games are worthy, too. Definitely one of the best sources of "What's a good game that runs on Linux?" answers, right here… :)

Bought this game for a mere $8 (Titanfall 2) during the latest sale on Steam (due to seeing many positive reports here and on ProtonDB), and instantly regretted it. There's a very real reason that I normally only ever buy games with native Linux support, and EA/Origin is a perfect example of why. Fought with Origin and this game for most of the day yesterday and part of the day today, trying every trick in the book to get it running, and it still gives (at best) a black screen after the little short lead-in intro video. Origin is absolute garbage, and this is the first (and last) game I'll ever be buying from there. It was a mistake to give EA/Origin a single thin dime, and I'm about two seconds away from just refunding it outright.

Always nice to see a developer turn around after a fail and pull off a win.

Quoting: zegenieDisclaimer: I'm one of the devs. I understand what you're saying, and we try to not require too much, but some kind of sign up is necessary. Would it be less intrusive if you could use an existing Google (or similar) login? It would still link it to an entry in our database since we need to recognize/identify users, but we're open for suggestions here.
I'd be in favor of a Google OAuth or Steam account login option. (Does Itch support OAuth or some similar option? Would totally be in favor of that too, if they do.) Definitely have more than enough accounts at various places these days such that creating a new one somewhere has become increasingly "meh" for me... Totally understand the need for some sorta account authorization/authentication, but always nice when it can be done such that it avoids yet another new login/password entry in my password safe.

NAM is a FPS built on the Build engine (Duke Nukem 3D, Blood, Shadow Warrior) that was originally released on August 1998. You can get it on Steam and it has Linux support...
You can play NAM natively with EDuke32
I've done exactly that myself. It's actually a pretty fun little mod. Totally gonna give this one a try, too. Looks amusing to be sure.

Quoting: chrI'm still shocked that after Minecraft turned to Microsoft people didn't switch to Minetest (or some other FOSS clone) and make it a comparably polished experience. I guess I wasn't in a mob galvanized to bring about a change after all - just people complaining loudly and expecting others do everything (no different from me). Just like the people who said that SystemD is bad - where are all the SystemD-free distro forks?
Can't speak for anyone else on this, but some folks (like myself) will literally boycott companies for life if the behavior is bad enough. There's a few game publishers I used to be a huge fan of back before they grew large enough to turn vile. Now I won't buy from those companies even on 90% off sales. I'd rather pay full price for a game that supports their product and values their paying customers.

As for SystemD, I know personally more than a few folk who won't touch a distro that uses it. I'm personally still not 100% sure on SystemD myself. I can see some of the benefits of it, but I also totally understand and agree with many of the arguments against it as well...

Looks like EA might be banning Linux gamers using Wine to play Battlefield V

Quoting: vskyeWell, it is EA after all. Unless some major changes come about, I'll never purchase any games from them. Speak with your wallet folks. Here's a interesting link from Consumerist magazine.

They won again in 2013 btw. ;)
Even if some "major change" came about and EA became magically Linux friendly, they've done enough over the years that they've permanently turned me from fan to lifelong boycott. EA won't see a single penny from me ever again. There's quite enough other developers out there that actually want my money. I think I'll just y'know... Buy stuff from them folk instead...

I find all parts of this statement highly suspect.
