Quoting: StoneColdSpiderWooohooooooo I was hoping my favourite super hero of all time Spider-Man would be proton compatible......... but for 94.95 Dollarydoos I will wait for a massive sale.....Looks like it's the "normal" $60 for a AAA game on both Steam and Humble. Where are you getting 94.95? Different currency?

Quoting: elmapul"No text or imagery promoting a different product. This includes no marketing of sequels or other titles in the same franchise"That probably falls under the "tasteful exceptions" described in the article:
chapter 2 count as marketing of sequels?
There are a few little exceptions of course, like adjusting the images to tastefully note the latest update which is never really a problem.Just make sure "chapter 2" is only on marketing material specifically for "chapter 2", and not, for example, on "chapter 1"

The new versioning system looks nice, but seems to have a notable flaw when it comes to troubleshooting/determining which change caused a particular issue.
Specifically, it only works one-way: if you roll back to a prior version, all versions that happened after that are deleted. Any changes you had after that point you'll need to redo manually.
This is an intentional limitation of the chosen versioning system [External Link], which can help simplify things, but also means you need to be aware that the action of rolling back cannot be undone.

FVS per concept does not allow travel to the future, so all the States after the restored one are deleted.

PSA:
The Halo patches are suspected to have broken other games. If 7-27 breaks a game for you, please use a different version for now.

I'm so glad they finally got black ops 2 multiplayer and zombies working through proton. been playing it with the "bleeding edge" branch of proton experimental over the last week or so and it runs well (once shaders have compiled, that is). this game was a personal favorite for myself and those i game with, and a welcome blast from the past.

Very fun game. Fills the want for a popular CoD Multiplayer type game quite nicely. I've got about 70 hours of playtime in this one from the last few months, and while the experience overall is very good, it still had some hiccups. Specifically:
1) Game would crash or freeze after a couple hours of playtime (ranked matches could not be rejoined, and this would result in an increasing amount of ban time - i ended up avoiding ranked matches altogether)
2) A rather peculiar issue that only manifests on an intel laptop (thinkpad e570 - other games work fine). i cannot reproduce the issue on a desktop with nvidia gfx, nor with an amd laptop, and all 3 systems have relatively recent installs of manjaro xfce. Attempting to launch the game results in the following error:
Tried overriding libc.so with `LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libc.so ./PortalWars-Linux-Shipping` without change. Next I tried forcing the steam linux runtime, but that also failed with the same error. Lastly I installed the steam flatpak and ran the game from there, but ran into the same issue.
Hoping the season 2 updates help with one or both of these issues.
EDIT: the season 2 update has for sure helped with the 2nd issue - it is now playable on the thinkpad e570 with no changes other than updating the game. thank you splitgate devs!

gamemode has been removed in the latest release (GE-Proton7-14, 15 minutes ago), due to that change receiving "more complaints than praise":

We're going to be adding in some Steam Deck related questions too. What do you want to see?Primary steam deck setup: standalone/handheld or docked with external peripherals

Tomb Raider's Linux port from Feral Interactive delisted on Steam

On the one hand, I'm very appreciative of Feral's high quality ports. I own almost all the linux ports they've released over the last 7 years, and I hope with increasing marketshare from the steam deck the number of companies looking to make new official native ports will increase (larger studios that require more control over the game and it's ports are unlikely to leave a large playerbase in the hands of a potentially volatile translation layer (proton) that not only has to support their game, but others as well).
On the other hand, that doesn't mean that other games didn't have low-quality ports. If I had to choose between a low-quality port and running the actively-maintained win32 version through proton, I'd take proton any day. And if the lower cost of support/maintenance of proton results in a game being officially tested/supported on linux, I'd call that a win.
Purely speculative, but I wouldn't be surprised if game-porting companies started offering a proton-compatibility service, wherein game studios could pay to have their games vetted through proton and tested with each new version to ensure it remains fully operational. Those services could also partner with Valve to make sure those games only use versions of proton that have been vetted by default, and contribute upstream to proton when issues are encountered. In that way, game devs could still pay to "officially" port their game to linux, but without the overhead, delays, and split project code of creating separate, native binaries.

Quoting: GuestConsidering that apparently even games with good Linux ports are getting switched to their Proton version it sure feels like Proton killed native Linux ports for the most part.I don't think it's too far out of the realm of possibility that a single, open-source translation layer being worked on by dedicated devs and a large community with substantial backing and funding (wine/proton) has surpassed a few smaller companys' after-the-fact game porting tools ("after-the-fact" referring to the original game dev's outsourcing of their linux port). Especially when those tools generally also had their own translation layers (especially graphics api's).

They didn't really start providing this public catalogue until a month ago, and this part of the effort isn't a community effort; only valve staff are testing and documenting game status (and probably only a handful at that). it's going to take time.
I don't know exactly how many staff they have testing these games, but just to give you some idea of the scope of the project: if valve have 5 ppl testing games for 8 hours a day straight, and they spend 1 hour testing each game, it would take them about 9 months to test every single game (roughly 40 games per day).
however, that does not take into account parallel efforts to get games into a playable state. as games are being tested, the testers are likely leaving notes for proton devs (who may or may not be the same ppl). the same games might be tested multiple times as updates to either proton or the games themselves are released.
Between 2022/02/04 and 2022/02/15, valve have gone through 471 games, at an estimated rate of roughly 42 games per day (including weekends). while we can't know for sure the actual testing rate, my example doesn't currently seem too far off. we'll have a better idea as valve test more games.

Quoting: Retron48693% of my steam games are not even verifiedThe vast majority of games for your average person's library is going to be "unknown" until valve's staff have time to extensively test all the 10s of thousands of games in the steam catalogue (10,263 according to google).
Although, I'm a gog user I do buy games on steam with most of them being free.
But I hope Wreckfest is, atleast playable if not verified?
Out of all the Dead Risings games I have, the only one I don't have which is DR4 is the only one verified so far.
Really annoying!
