Splitgate - Beta Season 1 is out now with a Map Creator

This fills the CoD gap on Linux quite nicely for myself and my friends. The fact that it natively supports linux is amazing, and the much faster game load is the icing on the cake. It's my new favorite game of this genre.

My only gripe with the game is that the starting UI (main menu) is very busy, especially when you first start playing. It definitely takes a while to get used to.

Quoting: BogomipsJust uninstalled it 2 days ago.
Apart from the awful UI, what I don't like in this game is that the hit boxes are often way off and portals are not see thru (I mean both ways) so sometimes the game is just spawn killing for 5 minutes.
I can definitely see through a portal both ways, as long as it's one I placed or that a teammate placed. Are you sure you're not looking through an enemy portal? You can't see through those (that's a feature, not a bug). If you don't like the enemy portal being there, you can destroy it with a portal grenade

a built-in dark theme for wine would be nice (now that it's blindingly bright by default).

something like this would be nice to have as an option:

Out of curiosity, regarding the Desktop "Window Manager Only":
  • 1) what software does that cover?

  • 2) Why would those be put into a single bucket vs having an option for each one like the rest?

  • 3) With that now being in 3rd place, does it make sense to split it up into the individual options?

God of War is now on Steam and runs out of the box on Linux with Proton
14 Jan 2022 at 10:24 pm UTC

Does this game have anti-cheat? If not, a good way to get rid of stuttering on nvidia is using proton-ge with
DXVK_ASYNC=1 %command%

Call of Duty Advanced Warfare had *horrendous* stuttering whenever you'd load into a map for the first time with a new proton version or new nvidia driver. Setting that gets rid of nearly all the stutter (although some textures will be black until the shader has been compiled for them, which it will do in the background)

If it has anti-cheat, don't use this! It can get you banned!

NVIDIA announce GeForce RTX 3050, RTX 3090 Ti and high-end laptop GPUs

I have 2 laptop with discrete Nvidia GPU and it works.

The difference with Windows is, you can't "hot switch".
Yeah, from that link:

“Output” allows you to use the discrete GPU as the sole source of rendering
[...]
“Offload” attempts to mimic more closely the functionality of Optimus on Windows.
[...]
NVIDIA has no plans to support PRIME render offload at this time.
The "Offload" is pretty much what I was looking for. I had tried using the quadro k1100m as the only renderer, but there were enough performance issues to force me back to integrated gfx only. the quadro by itself just wasn't as powerful as the integrated gfx.

Quoting: NibelheimBut ofc, AMD hardware works like a charm on Linux with free drivers :).
Looking forward to it :)

nothing about open source either.

i got my laptop back in 2015. it included an intel processor and an nvidia quadro k1100m. nvidia never implemented optimus support for it, even with the implementation of optimus support for newer hardware. i was never able to use the hardware that i paid for 7 years ago.

(the intel hardware worked fine, but it wasn't as powerful as it should have been without the descrete gfx)

about time for a new laptop - looks like AMD has some competitive offerings

Red Hat donates $10,000 to OBS Studio, their Flatpak to be official for Linux

It looks like network access is required [External Link] to open multiple instances of Audacity.

I would test, but I can't even get the flatpak version of audacity to launch past the splash window. Other flatpaks work fine (flatseal, authenticator). Audacity from the repos works fine.

More BattlEye titles for Proton on Linux including DayZ, ARMA 3 now supported

Quoting: NasraBohemia had developed a Linux Beta for ARMA3.
https://dev.arma3.com/ports [External Link]
It's unfortunate that the native port has been experimental for the last 5 years and is unlikely to see an official release. Not to mention the infrequent version parity updates which make the native version unplayable with ppl on windows unless they downgrade their clients.

Very glad that with proton that is no longer a sticking point for being able to play this game on linux - any updates to the windows version will be immediately (or nearly immediately) available to linux users.

Considering that the linux port experiences "up to 30% degraded performance in comparison to the Windows version", running it through proton probably has better performance anyway. Very glad they officially support it through proton.

Might be worth trying nvidia 470. I ran into problems running games specifically with proton on 495, but those went away when I downgraded.

black ops ii only has campaign playable atm. multiplayer and zombies work for about 15 seconds before an unhandled exception occurs. campaign works well though.

multiplayer and zombies can be played by installing steam in wine (6.21 or newer needed)
