I've always had the greatest respect for the Wine project. An exceptionally useful project for those of us on Linux, which has been highlighted further with Proton.

Ubisoft think gamers need to get comfortable with not owning games

I'm fine with subscription services where applicable and what's appropriate depends on personal choice. Personally, music is very important and I own everything on CD, I don't do streaming. I want to own my music because it's something I can and will replay indefinitely.

Games I won't generally tend to replay and anything important I can buy from GOG.

The only TV and film I want to own would be music or comedy. The only streaming subscription I currently have is Prime (the Wife likes the delivery aspect) but we're ditching that when they introduce ads into everything next month... and then want to charge more to remove them! They really are taking people for fools  Enough's enough.

Steam's telling me I played Pripyat and Clear Sky over twelve years ago... I thought it was longer! I played through Steam on Wine at that time. Really enjoyed those games. I won't be buying at full price to play through Proton though.

That guy's doing well to play the guitar with gloves on in the first video

PipeWire 1.0 is out now for modern Audio and Video on Linux

I tried Pipewire a good few months back, out of curiosity and I couldn't use it with my DAW (Mixbus), using JACK. 100% CPU usage, xruns agogo.

I tried it again a couple of weeks back and it's working flawlessly with my USB UMC204HD, so I'm all in now. The JACK interface is solid and I set up an equaliser sink for my headphones easily enough. Easyeffects is also pretty straightforward, although I'm not utilising it right now.

p.s. never used PA, just ALSA and JACK and have not had any problems with audio but Pipewire's the future and, to be fair, it's pretty much plug and play.
