Steam Deck Beta gets scaling for external displays, new "Preview" testing branch

Added an option to scale the Steam Deck user interface for external displays
Added a toggle for automatic scaling of the Steam Deck user interface for external displays
What's the difference?

Also does this have any bearing on the issue where I can't pick a greater-than-deck resolution in games even when using a large external display?

Steam Deck gets a set of nice bug fixes in a new client update
28 Jun 2022 at 9:23 am UTC

I recently encountered a nasty bug where my Deck was unable to shut down (the shutting down animation just kept playing) and all I could do was to leave it overnight to drain the battery.

Does anyone know if Valve are inviting users to report bugs? On Github or elsewhere?

(The presumed reason: trying to launch the installed itch.io launcher, added as a non-steam game, from the Game UI, being unable to abort or kill it when it didn't open, then unsuccesfully trying to fix it with a shutdown)

While I enjoyed the landscape painting, I never really connected with it as a strategy game. Couldn't spot how my choices impacted things - or if they did. Ended up just trying to do pretty towns for a while before giving up.

It would be interesting to see some comparison benchmarks, proton versus native, for this.

As for the debug suggestions... I mean it's what I would do anyway, I guess. Still, it's a bit like buying a lawn mower, reading the manual and finding the suggestion to "kick it really hard" if it won't work.

GOG update their stance on DRM-free, Galaxy as 'optional' for single-player

Quoting: Liam Dawe
Quoting: brokkrI can't help feeling point number 1 doesn't do much to clear things up.

Wouldn't the release of Hitman (2016) on GOG be able to tick that box? Single player mode was accessible offline. Just not all of it. I would have given them more credit for including the word 'fully'. Or even 'fully*' with some allowable *-caveats.
I think that's the point of what they're saying, so stuff like HITMAN would now be allowed on.
Ah, I see. I thought they were renewing their vows, not negotiating an open marriage :dizzy:

The absolutely awesome action-platformer shooter HUNTDOWN is out now for Linux

BTW I absolutely thought this was Hunt Showdown when I saw the title. Too many games, too few words in the dictionary.

I just reinstalledc Broforce because I felt I was missing some simple sidescrolling popcorn action. This will fit the bill nicely. Thanks for the tip :)

Quoting: ArehandoroYou can still see the account ID from the donation in liberapay, isn't it? Wouldn't be possible to map the account ID, if a user wants, to the user in GOL? If the user does not have the real name in GOL or LiberaPay the donation would still be anonymous.

There must be a way I reckon. I donate, without PayPal, via LiberaPay to Codeberg [External Link] and they use that payment for my membership.
I read their 2021 new years status blog post [External Link] and the one change [External Link] they hope to ship this year is the option to donate un-anonymously.

Quoting: Liam DaweNot really. Liberapay just pays in a lump sum for each donation, even though everything still mentions weekly and so on. Whereas Patreon is a nice sum every month, that's what gives us the stability - as we know roughly what we will get each month with Patreon.
Yeah, I can see that. I hope at least the charges are up front because LP confused me a bit saying "Next payment is in a year". I'm guessing "next" here means "after the one that just went through that we just did".

Anyway, thanks for getting me to finally put my money where my mouth is
