Minecraft Java will move to Microsoft accounts in 2021, gets new social screen
22 Oct 2020 at 10:28 am UTC Likes: 16

I went from skeptical to shoulder shrugging to kinda pissed off again.

I figured I'd get out ahead and create a Microsoft account for it. Turns out the email already had a MS account. Reset password, fine. The I'm told that the account had violated the service agreement. Please give us your phone number. You know what? No. I don't think I want to give you my phone number to play a game I bought.

An MS account is not a big deal but it is a deal because of the inevitable BS. If facebook linking VR headsets to facebook accounts is a deal, then so is this.

Hybrid Beasts has a fresh spin on the classic Worms - now in Early Access on Steam

The regional differences bit made me think of Spelunky - maybe because I have been playing the sequel non-stop for the past two weeks :D Doubling down on that sort of interplay between attributes would be super interesting in an artillery game setting and set it apart from Worms. Curious to see where this goes but I am not really interested before single player happens.

2019's weirdest release 'Hypnospace Outlaw' has a huge update, with improved Linux support

Been fence sitting for a long time on this one. Seems like a good time to finally pick it up. Does anybody have any experience about how well it runs on integrated graphics (intel)?

Also Into the Breach. But I can feel my interest slipping much sooner than it did with FTL. It's extremely well put together, no question, and when I'm in the middle of it, it holds my attention 100%. When I'm away from it, though, there's not pull to get back... into the breach (sorry).

Maybe it's the lack of FTL-style story telling glue? I was never much into completely abstract puzzle stuff and this feels closer to that than campaign strategy.

Quoting: DragosakIt has arguably gotten worse from what I reckon. Instead of each province raising its own levy, you set a rally point and they all appear there after "an appropriate time". (so to my understanding it will take longer the farther away) It's done to minimize the micro management of merging them - but also seemingly makes it impossible to "intercept" them, which is a bummer imo and I hope there's something more to it.

Also, armies automatically turn into ships when entering water.

Those are 2 of the biggest criticisms of CK3 which I read on the forums.

Me, I'm looking forward to it very much and really hope that one of the first DLCs/bigger expansions will focus on artifacts and maybe later we get more of Asia (including Japan!) added to the game.
Hmmm yeah. I can see how it reduces micromanagement but you're right, it does pull in the same direction, away from immersion and realism :(

Back when I was playing CK2 I had a huge list of 'stuff I would like to see' but - probably for best - most of it's gone from memory now :)

The one thing I do remember missing was for them to abolish teleportation. You need to be at the head of your army? Click and teleport out. Things getting too spicey to risk you ruler? Click and teleport home. It detracts from immersion and roleplaying and it misses out on the opportunity to create a Richard Lionheart held hostage [External Link] situation. Which is like my favourite bit of crusading history :)

I haven't followed the dev diaries religiously so I don't know if there is anything like this being considered.

Quadrilateral Cowboy, Thirty Flights of Loving & Gravity Bone all now on GitHub

I think it's worth mentioning that Quadrilateral Cowboy is part of the itch.io bundle [External Link] so there's an easy way to get the missing parts ... at least for another 9 hours.

The itch.io charity bundle hits over $4 million and now over 1,500 items inside

I had avoided Celeste for years, having been scarred by Super Meat Boy, but it's a really positive surprise (so far). I don't know if it's just the 'ambiance' or if it is more forgiving but so far setbacks don't feel galling in the way they did in SMB.

Deeper in, further from the headliners, I have had some good fun with DROPSHIP [External Link] (works well in Wine), an update of the Lunar Lander idea but with 'relative' gravity (relative to your ship). Imagine the video game equivalent of spinning around in an office chair until you're sick :)

PICO-8 fantasy console arrives on itch.io, available in a bundle

Quoting: nullzeroWow... one more that by itself is a complete steal on that gargantuan bundle their doing.
This. I pitched in thinking of it more as a donation than a purchase. Given the amount of games I've found that I will definitely play, not even including the number that just look like one-fun-hour-throwaways or interesting curios, I'm embarrased at what I paid.

Into the Breach from Subset Games (FTL) now supports Linux

Gotta admit I had given up hope. Wonderful news. Going straight to Humble - thanks for the tip!

Edit: Redeemed on Steam, Steam store page says linux, but installing and launching and it says it's using Steam Play? Am I just too early?
