Steamworks gets Denuvo Anti-Cheat, here's what Irdeto say about Linux support

My point is, depending of the developer, it can take a lot more time for wine to legit work around those DRM issues (if not forever)
For example, I can only play Fear 3 (CEG DRM) through proton if I replace the game .exe with a cracked one, and this is something I don't want to become recurrent.

Quoting: soulsourceBus Simulator 18 took more than a year to crack: https://crackwatch.com/game/bus-simulator-18 [External Link]I think this is usually the average time for then to crack Denuvo games.

It's sad how anti cheat solutions are more effective to block legit Linux players instead of actual cheaters. And for anti-piracy protection, I haven't see any successfully case with Denuvo since the Chinese had their first success of crack them.
Reading the article, my thoughts are that it will be similar to EAC situation: It kinda works with Linux, but the developer has to choose if they want to support it, which the answer is no.

Quoting: EhvisAs far as I know CEG works already. It just relies on the Windows version of Steam, which is a bit of an issue for proton.Yes, or a cracked one like FEAR 3

Quoting: 3zekiello$edow$This word looks like you tried to write "Windows" and had a race condition problem, which ironically is the problem wine developers have in this case.
Very well.

I was interested in this game, until I read that the maps are randomly generated. I might buy anyway to support a Linux developer.

My wishlist for Valve linux gaming in 2021:
- Improve gamescope as a production ready wayland compositor optimized for gaming
- Porting some opengl games to Vulkan (my dream would be l4d2, but I know it's impossible)
- A new Arch-based official SteamOS
- Make Proton works with DRM and Media Foundation out of the box
- Support for ARM
- A new day one Linux official Game (why not)
Talking about steam running through a live media usb, I think this won't work very well mostly because of the limited storage size.
I don't know about your European / North American guys, But where I live, It's very rare to see someone with a 1 Tb pen drive, and the amount of boards still coming with usb 2.0 is outrageous!
So while I think it's awesome for valve to give this option, I don't think this will be a game changer as it sounds (I would like to be wrong here though)

DirectShow and Media Foundation support - allowing many more types of media from Windows games and applications to actually work.I hope this results in less problems with japanese made games.
Core modules in PE format - this is to help "a number of copy protection schemes that check that the DLL files on disk match the in-memory contents".Does someone knows if this can help games using CEG DRM to work?
