Fired (well okay they call it retired) by the same board of directors who hired him in the first place to do what he did (they knew and gave their okay for something as big as that price change), so I don't expect whomever they hire next will be much better or less greedy, in a perfect world that board would fire themselves too, but sadly we live in this world ;)

I read his post, wish there would be some real life examples. 5000% sounds amazing but what is the impact on game X :)

Really great for godot, and i hope it will get better and better.
As for Unity, the 2022 gaming report states unity has 230.000 active developers doing 750.000 games.
Let's say 5% of those have been (publicly) angry about this whole debacle, that would be 11.500 (way to high a number but let's be positive), let's say 1% of those are really going to quit with unity, that would be 1150 (again way to high but hey), that still leaves 228.850
Unity is not going anywhere, how frustrating it might be, it is so big (as is epic) it can simply get away with this stuff.
Of course it will give some extra momentum to the godot's of this world, but that will be about it, I think epic is probably the one laughing quietly in a corner for the 1% that is comming their way.

I am glad valve choose to work with codeweavers, they did and still do a lot for wine but are often forgotten and feels crossover is mentioned to little :)

My first thought would be to say to little to late, however developers to far in their current development cycle can't change. For smaller developers who hire manpower when needed there simply is a huge pool of talent they can hire from. Then there is Godot but is it really up to par with unity or epic at this point in time, from what I read it's not there yet. So in this day and age where people's attention span is as long as their facebook/twitter/X feed for today and unity might be 1% cheaper then epic it will blow over, might be a little dip but not in the long run.

So for more revenue from 10% of their customers they are basically doing a titanic with their game engine. And no mather what they going to do now it will take then years to get any credibility back.
And as I said on the other post, I find it pretty amazing this can be done retroactive one sided, the "phone home on install" code must have been in their for quiet a while.
Funny how their stock went up a little today, then dropped again but not as much as it was in the morning, so I guess investors see a future, sort of... (select 5D [External Link])

I am still a bit confused about this. Its their right to go for another business model, not saying this is smart. Where I am confused is how they can do this on already released games? That would mean that the "phone home after installation" has been in there quite a while. Also don't understand how they can change this one sided, I assume all the developers sign some kind of contract, does that have so many loopholes that this is allowed? Maybe in the United States, but wonder if and how a EU Court would look at the changing of term on a running contract when a developer is about to release a game he been working on for years and has nowhere to go now.
So despite that I find it a dumb move I am wondering how they can simply change the terms and get away with it.

On once side Wine/Proton is a blessing for gaming in Linux on the other side is makes sure native ports will never become mainstream.
as I said I agree with your sentiment but I can't blame them or say they lost my respect.

Quoting: GuestNot only did they quietly drop native releases after 15 years of great support, they outright ignored direct inquiries from me and others several times since the game's original announcement. Frictional has lost alot of my respect from that alone; went from a day one buy as all their games for me since Penumbra to maybe waiting for bargain bin sale.Although I fully understand you sentiment and I even agree, they always been day one buys for me too I can't really blame them. With Wine/Proton running windows games as good as it does (and the glitch Liam mentioned will probably be fixed) why would a small company (20-25 or so employees) waste resources on making a Linux version that might take 3-4% in sales and maybe 20% resources to make ?
