Valve open sources SteamOS Devkit Client for Steam Deck

Quoting: slembckeHuh... that's kinda neat, and written using Dear ImGUI too. Looking forward to using mine for some gamedev.
My exact same reaction. "I recognise that! That's dear imgui!"

I love it. This allows devs to work on the PC they're comfortable with and push builds to their Decks quickly and easily to test changes. Which is what you need if you want devs to seriously support something.

Edit: Another advantage of this approach, for big studios with a lot of internal tools, they could even pull apart the code of these projects and integrate the code into their own internal dev tools if they want.

See industry? Open sourcing stuff makes sense when you're trying to work with your customers not work against them.

Bungie has more to say on Destiny 2 for Steam Deck and it's still a no

Quoting: ElamanOpiskelijaAnti-cheat?
Luxury, I say.
Back in the old days, we had to play against hackers all the time, and win anyway.

And we had to clean the mouse ball with alcohol. And all those skyscrapers over there were just a bunch of huts.
And you try and tell the young people of today that, and they won't believe you.
Back in my day we had an admin in each server playing along with us who would just boot the haxxors out on sight and ya know that form of "anti cheat" has simply never been topped.

XCOM 2's multiplayer being removed but will still work on Linux and Steam Deck

Quoting: EhvisYou'd expect this to happen because the servers would be closed down. But if that was the case, then why would Linux no be affected? Is MP not shared with Windows for this one either and my just using Steam? Strange separation in any case.
Like a lot of Feral ports, multiplayer I believe was not cross-platform with Windows.
Maybe the multiplayer for these ports is not cross platform because it's being hosted by Feral themselves? If anyone has the game they might be able to figure out what the IP addresses or domain names are of the servers the game is connecting to and confirm if it looks like the game is connecting to Feral's servers or Firaxis Games.

Quoting: rustybroomhandle"Oh no, we have a cheating problem on Windows, best keep those stinky Linux users out. Everyone knows they're mad haxx0rz that sit in their hoodies in the dark cheating at video games."
That stereotype is completely wrong.
I don't wear a hoodie.

Yet another game that has improved on Linux most likely entirely due to the existence of the Deck. Love it.

Gabe hand-delivers signed Steam Decks, sounds like a Steam Deck 2 is planned

Quoting: mt>"then he went back to his van and grabbed us each a Deck."

Were those extra Decks meant for other people who ended up not getting one, or were those already meant to be for being given away?
I imagine they were fully expecting someone to approach them and say 'Hey can we have a Steam Deck!?' and came prepared just in case.

Eggnut decide not to bring Backbone to Linux officially

We're very sorry to announce that we won't be porting Backbone to Linux in the near future.
'Near future'... Just say it, you're not going to do it 'ever'.

We did our best to do it in-house, but it took immeasurable amount of time and effort,
Your game is made in Unreal Engine 4... was there really no one in your entire team who possesses the ability to handle installing Linux on a PC, downloading and compiling UE4 for Linux following a youtube tutorial to do so, then building your game on it?

and making it work properly would require creating a dev environment to work in
... Yes.. that's generally how game development works.. ?...

which we don't have the resources for because we're deep in production for our next game.
You don't have the resources to dual boot a PC you already own with a free OS?

We are not in the financial position to hire another party to do the porting for us.
Not sure why you wouldn't be in a financial position to do so given you ran a kickstarter specifically to raise funding to do exactly what you're saying you don't have the finances to do.

We absolutely understand the frustration these news might bring, and we're ready to offer you these solutions:
HA-HA-HA.

In summary: "We promised a Linux version just to get a bunch more folks to support our kickstarter to effectively use those people as an interest free loan. Now we've made the game and sold enough copies to repay that loan, we're willing to offer refunds."

Seriously, people, stop funding kickstarters. Just stop doing it. It's even worse than pre ordering a game. There have been maybe a handful of game kickstarter projects that haven't ended up producing a completely rubbish outcome.
