Inspired by the likes of Cube World, open source RPG Veloren has the biggest update yet

I'm just too stupid for such games, got killed so often :D Installation was super-smooth though, totally unexpected. It's just ~125MB, I expected something measured in GB. But then, makes sense, voxels + procgen...

The Pro1 X Smartphone looks like an awesome Linux phone for tech fans

Quoting: kaiman[...] there are a few essential apps forced on me by the likes of my Bank (for 2FA) or the local public transport (for buying tickets when there is no ticket machine, or it isn't working) or all those "smart" things that want to pair with my mobile device (because why provide a web-interface for configuration when it can have an app instead!?)[...]
This is indeed an highly annoying problem. I do have ubports on my only phone, only because so far I was able to dodge mentioned apps.

But really, this "iOS/Android only" crap has to stop.

Quoting: Patola...aaaaand, in the end, like in Evoland [External Link], it will escape the misery of pixel graphics and triumphantly emerge in 3D? I am longing for this poor guy! Escape the oppression of Flatland [External Link]!
He will be gifted a 3rd dimension and promoted to become the Blender default cube and his new fate will be to be deleted each time someone starts a new project somewhere :)

Looks pretty cool. And it's made by rxi! Here's another (game-dev related) project: https://github.com/rxi/lite [External Link]

Tau Cubis is a shiny upcoming sci-fi Tower Defense game
20 Jun 2020 at 10:03 am UTC

Quoting: no_information_hereI like the visual style. The quality of a tower defense game is really in the difficulty balance of the later (harder) levels. I sure hope they get it right! I need a new tower defense fix soon...
Agreed! ;D

Wipeout inspired racer BallisticNG to get a big expansion in July

I hope they won't slip in weird new game modes. It's surely a good idea to create as much variation as possible on each axis/element (in lack of a better term) the game consists of. But some of the game modes introduced in the 2 free expansions have been downright weird, borderline understandable, and yet easy to win without me even knowing what I did.

I think they should rather go the "modifier" route if they want to create variation. There is a double-damage knockout for example, which changes things quite a bit. I'd like to see more modes in this line of thinking.

Blender 2.83 is out as the first ever LTS, gains initial VR support

Quoting: setzer22With the current version, you cannot work on animation with subdivided meshes (technically you can, it's just very slow, even on high end systems)
In render properties you have a "simplify" panel, you can set max. subsurf levels for the viewport there.

Inspired by Master of Orion, free and open source 'FreeOrion' has a new release up

I put way too many hours into this game. Their agenda is to remove micro-management from game as much as possible. Now there are 4X-fans who like micromanagement, others find it tiring. If you are in the latter camp...
