Proton Hotfix gets Halo Infinite working again on Steam Deck and Linux desktop

Anybody got this running on flatpaked Steam?

I'm having trouble running anything else than the proton community builds.

Oh wow, that's an nVidia I like, for a change. I might even consider their products at some point.

Quoting: t3gI’m more surprised that some of you are playing games in 2022 with a 580. I had one years ago but graduated to a 5700 and currently on a 6900XT.

I do game on a ultrawide though so maybe that’s why I appreciate the extra power.
I still play on my R9 Fury, even though it hangs in some games. It was all I could get my hands on in 2018, and while the GPU shortage has eased a bit, manufacturer prices are still crazy. I'll monitor the second hand market over the next months for a 580 or something similar.

Thoughts on the official Steam Deck Docking Station
27 Oct 2022 at 2:31 pm UTC

Quoting: JuliusReally a missed opportunity for Valve to not include a stand-alone Steam Link in the docking station. Price-wise it would have probably not made a big difference either.
Oh wow great idea!

Like the Wii U, but placing the smarts in the tablet :P

Valve starts roll-out of the Steam Deck controller configurator to desktop Steam

Quoting: rcritI found it amusing that the three intro screens for the new configuration tool demonstrate using a Steam Deck. It made my Steam controller jealous that it didn't have its own screen.
That makes me wonder, will they facilitate the use of a steam deck as a "simple" controller at some point? Connected via USB or network. It could also be more advanced and show stuff like inventories on-screen, or contextual (action layers) actions.

Proton 7.0-5 is coming soon improving Steam Deck / Linux gaming

Is this a release from experimental? If so, the usual warning about it requiring Mesa 22.2 is required :)
I'm not sure though, as it doesn't mention Halo Infinite.

Quoting: jordicomaCan someone simply fork the project and name it another thing? I suppose that has some legal problems.
Did you read the article and comments? That's what PrismLauncher is about.

No legal issues thanks to OSS: you are allowed to do that kind of thing for any OSI-compatible license.

Proton Experimental updated helping Halo Infinite and Spider-Man Remastered

I was finally able to play Halo infinite with the mesa-git flatpak add-on (need both 32 and 64 bit versions).

It runs well, but stutters occasionally. I disabled the shader cache, as I may have more than 3TB of installed games, but I wasn't actually booted into my main gaming partition (I had a computer fail and all that).

I was planning to try and run games through NFS on the Steam Deck; I hope they'll add the ability to enable the shader cache on a game-by-game basis.

Facepunch put out a fresh statement on Rust for Steam Deck / Linux

Quoting: ArtenI don't know rust, i didn't play it, so dont know how multiplayer work in that game. But generaly, there is solution how to solve linux cheater "problem".
1. They can disable crosplatform multiplayer. You have problem with cheaters? Let linux users be on separated servers. Some players want to play with linux frieds? Just allow windows users to join to linux servers with warning of greater risc of cheaters.
2. If game has ability to create own server, just give ability to run game without EAC for "not EAC servers"

Linux can be unofficially supported with these limits.
Well, their reasoning explains clearly that they don't want to open it, even a bit, so that cheats cannot be developed on Linux. So it makes sense that they would disallow even that.

However, a cursory search shows that it's possible to run the game with EAC disabled: `+server.secure 0 +server.eac 0 +server.encryption 0`.
Since it's possible to run it with EAC disabled, I have trouble to see what else Linux could bring to the table for helping cheat developers?
They would just develop their cheats with EAC off; then add EAC evasion techniques to the lot before shipping to windows... cheaters mostly cheat on Windows anyway; they don't want to dual-boot just to cheat, which is understandable. So that windows EAC evasion has to be developed anyway. And they can develop the cheat part just fine on Windows too by disabling EAC. What's left? Developers slightly prefer Linux, so let's inconvenience them? That might slow down cheat makers by 1%, if anything.

SteamOS and Steam Deck on top for Linux in the Steam Hardware Survey
5 Oct 2022 at 8:10 pm UTC

Quoting: KuJo
Quoting: KuJoFor this month, the Linux share will be higher. I had the survey yesterday. 😁
*ROFL*

Received the survey on PC a few days ago ... and now just also on my Steam Deck!

2x Linux! This month the survey should go through the roof! *gg*
*gimli voice* it still only counts as one

Seriously though, all you computers will display it for a few days at the beginning of the month if you're selected.
I used to switch to my more powerful machine to answer it.
