Godot 4.1 has been released today for game developers who want a cross-platform free and open source game engine. Bringing with it plenty of new features. This is part of their commitment to more regular releases to work on stability, performance, and polish.

Some of what's changed includes:

  • Better performance for adding and removing child nodes.
  • Experimental multithreading for scenes.
  • The Vulkan renderer got a pipeline cache.
  • GDScript now has static variable support.
  • More parts of the UI can be detached and moved around like the script editor.
  • The Project Manager now lets you assign tags to projects for better filtering.

Even more changes:

  • Particle turbulence got reworked to give more control.
  • AI navigation upgrades.
  • And much more in the release notes.

Sounds like they need some more funding too, as they stated plainly in the release blog post that their "monthly expenses remain higher than monthly donations" and so they're quite dependent on large one-time donations from various companies. With that in mind you can learn how to support them here.

This is really interesting : I have dozens of imported projects (tech demos, components showcase, tools, and of course my own projects), having them displayed all together was mildly bothering me.

QuoteMoving to 4.2 milestone as we won't have time to finalize and properly test a bugfix before the 4.1 release. But this stays high on the priority list and should be fixed shortly after release for the 4.1.1 patch release.
Seems it's an issue with XWayland.
