Zelox 21 Jun 2020

H.265 is a suspect already. Does it run Linux?
damarrin 22 Jun 2020
Why would it?
Shmerl 22 Jun 2020
For the same reason Stadia does? Not depend and pay anything to MS.

I'm looking into PSNow. Virtua 5 is a game I never played ever and I have a few friends interested in it. Currently, I'm using Stadia to play MK11 with friends.

Interesting. So it also only runs Linux games or they are using Wine as well?

Well the client u need support Linux. So you can stream to a Linux machine. But the computer you rent seems to be windows I'm afraid. So it's not like stadia, where the games run on debain

Didn't you say it runs Linux (Ubuntu)? Or it's Windows after all? If it runs on Windows, then it's just another Windows gaming service.

Think you miss understood me. Could be my English also. It runs on Linux, I ment the client. The pc you rent seems to be windows 10. So the game you play runs on windows and you can stream to almost any device, Linux included, "it runs on Linux".
Shmerl 23 Jun 2020
I got it. So it's just another remote Windows renting, like Geforce Now and others. Not much better than dual booting or running Windows in VM locally really. I don't consider it Linux gaming.

Somewhere buried on their pages there was a statement saying that they're planning to rent Linux machines too. So basically a full Linux chain.
But that is something I've read a while back, no idea if they're still working at it or just gave up or something else.

There's basically no-one outside of Google or Valve with the interest and means to make a streaming platform that's based on Linux. If any such platform were to succeed, especially when it advertises full Steam, GOG, etc compatibility, it must be running on Windows. So I'm really surprised all those "is it running on Linux" questions were even there.

The Linux client, however, if it works and is well supported, is something that sets this service apart.

There is no such thing as "it must be running on Windows". Stadia doesn't. If Valve are to launch anything, I doubt they'll use Windows either.

I'm surprised Stadia itself is not an example enough to demonstrate it. All those "let's use Windows" services are just cheapskates who caved in to paying Windows tax and don't want to do any serious work.

Stadia doesn't advertise running all the games you own from various stores. What's the point you're trying to make?

Wow.
Shmerl 23 Jun 2020
You don't need to advertise "running all games". And if they used Wine they could advertise running a lot more anyway. Valve is quite likely to do that.
Shmerl 23 Jun 2020
I see them as cheapskates, since it's a lot easier to take Windows and run it, instead of making Windows games work on Linux like Valve did.
