It really is the worst investment I have made in years. I'm barely leaving my couch since I have it.
Looks like that is not going to be better.

Boatswain is a new Stream Deck compatible app for Linux

Quoting: elmapulis there any advantage of using stream deck over, i dont know... a phone? it dont seem something hard to replicate
I got one in a sale and I never knew that I actually wanted one. It's just super convenient to have access to things without pulling out my phone, unlocking it and doing stuff (where there are some things I can't do with the phone but with the deck).
I can control my Elgato lights with some pre-defined presets, I can control my HUE lights, mute my sound, restart pulse, start/stop my Index stations, and whatever I put on the buttons.
Once you have it, you don't want to miss it. One big downside would be that it only works if the computer attached to it is on.

Steam Deck update fixes buying games for some, touch input on 'Digital' keyboard theme
15 Mar 2022 at 1:22 pm UTC

Does anybody know if there is an official channel to report issues with the Steam Deck somewhere?

Hope they will improve on the keyboard. It's missing a lot of input in Deck mode and in Desktop mode it's just a horrible experience tbh. It also really could use some kind of dictionary, to speed up writing stuff. And, of course, a proper layout for my country.

Heroic Games Launcher now on Flathub, even easier to run Epic Games on Steam Deck
11 Mar 2022 at 4:59 pm UTC

It might be easier now, but it's still quite a hassle, me thinks.
I did a quick try to run "Kingdom come deliverance", but it won't run without further hacking. Can't run it with Steam, because of EOS and with heroic and the wine prefix it just does not run. Guess I have to fiddle with it some more, which is tiresome without a bluetooth mouse+keyboard.
But still, nice to see Heroic as flatpack.

Here's some of what we've learned about the Steam Deck

Not gonna lie, I'm a little bit concerned about that read-only main system. That could complicate some things, but we'll have to see how it is implemented in the end, I guess.

Very interesting read and summary. It's easy to forget how fast things have evolved and how they did. Thank you!

That might help with that jitter problem until it is fixed:

Happy Birthday!
It's not that long ago that I've found out about this excellent site, but since I did, I browse it daily and it made it so much more easy to stay up to date with what's new in the world of Linux gaming. Thank you a lot for your work!

Now, if they finally would create a new control center for Linux to configure all that fancy stuff, that'd be awesome.

Steampunk survival game Volcanoids has a huge combat upgrade
20 Jan 2021 at 12:03 am UTC

Sounds very promising. Combat was the biggest flaw of the game, it just wasn't fun to fight any enemies. You pretty much sucked up bullets and hoped that you live longer than your enemies. Have to give it another go, I guess.
