I had some interest in this, but I'll definitely try this, and if it's good, buy this. I'll make sure to do it from inside the game too, as I want to show statistical support for this move.

It kinda reminds me of the days of Official Bootleg from DreamTheater that I heard from my friend a ways back.

XIVLauncher now on Linux, gets FINAL FANTASY XIV Online running on Steam Deck

Quoting: fenglengshunMy "final bar" would be if Genshin could get some sort of Linux release, because then that's it, we've reached critical mass where the ball's rolling on their own.
Can't be trusted to work forever, but search for "an anime game launcher" on gitlab. Will respect their wish to not link it here or mention the game by name.
Have tried that one, and it works, but it's still too much of a hassle for me - I can do it, I did it, the instruction was clear, but it's a hassle compared to just "adding non-Steam game" or just running a .exe.

Kinda like FFXIV before this new flatpak release of XIVLauncher. If there's a way to get it on flatpak then that's when it's actually accessible to most people IMHO. Obviously, though, that's not going to happen as long as the anti-cheat stays the way they are.

Holy shit. This and the news on Nvidia open source driver? It really is the year of Linux Gaming. I'm looking to see if there's any other non-Steam games interested in packing themselves as a Flatpak (whether officially or not), because that really would be really accessible for everyone.

My "final bar" would be if Genshin could get some sort of Linux release, because then that's it, we've reached critical mass where the ball's rolling on their own.

Perhaps change "/home/USER" to just $HOME then?

Manage your Linux PC remotely as KDE Connect lands on iPhone and iPad

Quoting: EikeDoes Windows have similar programs? Because I too think it's a really cool and handy thing!
There is a KDE Connect installer on the official downloads page [External Link] along with a Microsoft Store release [External Link]. I think it requires Windows 10, maybe Windows 8.1, though.

Other than that, Microsoft does have a Link to Windows app on Android and the receiver app on Windows 10 is built in. I think there are functions that are Samsung exclusive or Samsung optimized though, like Screen Mirroring (the only thing that KDE Connect lacks right now).

As far as third party goes, I've only ever used Pushbullet and Crono. Both of these are really only for notification mirroring and sending files/url, though. That said, the main plus is that they work over data, so you can send files/url even when the device is offline or not connected to the same WiFi.
Quoting: ssj17vegetaDon't get me wrong, I can totally understand the appeal of IPhones for most users, but someone who likes to tinker, install whatever he/she wants ?
With the locking down that Android has been doing, I've been feeling less and less need to tinker with my Android phone. I just... install the app I need, and use them.

Don't get me wrong, if I do end up trying iOS, I'm fully expecting frustration over several of its artificial limitations. But I just want a decent phone which can last for more than three years without having weird performance issues that infuriates me more than losing access to a few apps. I'll have to strongly consider the pros and cons, but I think there are users who don't value what Android does enough that iOS won't over what iPhone has advantages on.

Nevermind how some people (especially in the US and Japan) already have iPhone, but they might not be able to afford Mac and uses normal PC/laptop, who then made the switch to Linux.

And it's not like iOS and Linux don't have anything in common. Consider the fact that GNOME is the de facto default DE of Linux as a whole- and that there are people who argue for the removal of themes and all the other stuff that GNOME devs does. Vendors like Canonical and Red Hat sometimes makes questionable choices as well - I don't think the Ubuntu users who happily uses Snap would have much complaint about iOS.

Oh, that's nice. I've been thinking of getting an iPhone SE next year because I want to see what's the fuss regarding iOS is all about so that I can properly talk/criticize it - the main holding point for me had been my gacha games (I have since retired from gacha), YouTube Vanced (RIP - though I still use the last release on my phone), and KDE Connect.

KDE Connect also has a Windows release I think, though unfortunately it couldn't work with my Win7 laptop from work. Honestly, it's really versatile. The only thing that would make it better is some redundancy in way to connect, like with Bluetooth as well on top of WiFi, and maybe connecting just with phone data although that would probably require running a server (I wouldn't mind tbh, as long as it's open-source as well and self-hostable a la Bitwarden, I'd rather pay for KDE's than something like Pushbullet).

An interview with Aaron Honeycutt from System76

I'm not sure what system76 does with Pop OS, but for some reason it's just the fastest for boot speed on my laptop.

Coming back now after last year, it feels a lot more polished and I only ever need small extensions to change a few thing's behavior so much, much less Gnome instability as I don't need dash-to-dock, dash-to-panel, and all the other big extensions to change Gnome's behavior.

Pop Shop continues to be the best GUI App Store I've experienced - and now that more and more apps are on Flathub, there's less need to go on PPA hunting (although there are still a good deal of .deb apps that I need, so I wish for some sort of integration with deb-get).

While I was just thinking of using PopOS for a short while as I wait for Fedora 36 to come out, I think I'll stick with Pop for a while now - I'm looking forward to COSMIC DE, though I hope they have more configurability or compatibility with Gnome extensions as while I could definitely stand using COSMIC-GNOME without extensions, I'd be much happier if I could customize it to my preference.

Wine manager Bottles gets a UI refresh, developers now GNOME Foundation Members

I've been thinking about switching to Bottles, but I already have a working winepfx for use with my Japanese games and don't see the merit of moving to Bottles (especially as last year it was still buggy and before Wine 7.0, vn compatibility was still not great). Still, it is a good project and if it was more ready for prime time when I first discovered Linux, I'd definitely have used it instead.

That's really nice. I swear, cinematics in Japanese games are a pain in the ass.

Sorry Arch (EndeavourOS), it's not working out any more and hello Fedora
9 Apr 2022 at 3:19 pm UTC

I use Fedora KDE for work too, though I still use Garuda Linux for my gaming PC, especially because it makes getting certain apps easier. Sometimes, the apps I want don't really have a Fedora version, and I don't want to deal with the workarounds, so the Arch-based Garuda Linux just works best for me for non-work occasion. For work, though? I just want something stable that is more reasonably updated - and my best option for that is Fedora.

I really hope more apps adopt Flatpak though - it's so annoying when they only have .deb or Snap option, no Flatpak or actual rpm to make using them on Fedora easier. I really don't want to bother with Distrobox or JuNest or manual build to deal with those issues, which is why it's a no-go for my gaming PC.

SteamOS Plugin Manager should enable lots of fun on the Steam Deck

Quoting: elmapulcheat engine...
Well, the alternative is gameconqueror (and I guess the in-development PINCE) but both of those aren't on Flatpak yet...

I wonder how the Cheat Engine plugin works. Maybe it automatically installs cheat engine to the game's compat prefix and then starts it?
