I wanted to make the joke that it'll cost 2000 bucks online nowadays - didn't expect this to be the actual regular price, though. :D

We're going to be adding in some Steam Deck related questions too. What do you want to see?
I guess the most matching question for most wannabe Deck owners is "When is you delivery to be expected?" :D

Quoting: Purple Library GuyI dunno, except maybe for movie-style cutscenes, graphical detail levels in games passed the point where I don't care any more years ago. So for me, as long as it doesn't degrade back down to pixel-art levels, more speed for a bit less detail is something for nothing.
Agreed, I'd say for about the last 5 years or so now, it's not just the amount of polygons we're pushing, or the resolution of the textures, but the overall level of detail in characters, environments, animations, the quality of lighting and the post processing of 3D graphics in games has reached a point where everything looks pretty amazing at just about any resolution or quality setting to be honest.
Sometimes, I looked at the high and not-so-high quality settings screenshots in games magazines and couldn't tell which was which without reading the accompanying text.

(... and still wanted to have max quality settings. X) )

Quoting: TuxeeSure if he doesn't like it, he doesn't like it. It's just I can't imagine that he can enjoy any other multiplayer online game, since from my experience they are all far far worse.
Me, I basically quit multiplayer games back in the old CoD BlackOps days, when you couldn't choose a server with decently people (banning indecently behaving people) anymore. Frozen Synapse was a great exception.

Unity game engine team announce 3D platformer Gigaya, free for devs to tinker with
23 Mar 2022 at 7:17 pm UTC

The Unity team say they've been getting requests to make their own games, as a way of validating how the game engine is designed and how it all flows together. It makes sense, if you design a game engine but don't actually use it then there's going to be lots of areas that perhaps aren't quite right for a full development workflow.

After having made a library for a long time, I was surprised how medium user friendly it actually was when I really had to use it outside of unit testing some day. :D
So, yes, thumbs up for this plan.

Quoting: YvanoffBut long back order indeed, since I'm stupid I only pre ordered it at Christmas 2021 (why didn't I pre order day 1 ? Beats me) and I'm after Q3. I'm betting on a one year wait between placing my order and getting it
I preordered like a week ago, after seeing all those articles. Stupid me. It's not like you're forced to buy it when your time comes...! "After Q3" now.

Google announce 'alpha-quality' Steam on Chrome OS is now actually here

Quoting: Purple Library GuyAll for the purpose of deliberately crippling the OS so nobody can do anything much except run the browser. It's not bad to use . . . until you want to do something exotic, like save a word processing document to your thumb drive.
That's so nineties, though!

;)
