Canonical give some thoughts on the future of Ubuntu Desktop

Quoting: CyborgZetaRegardless of my mixed opinions on Canonical/Ubuntu, I will continue sticking with Kubuntu as my distro of choice. It just works well for me, and I've gotten very comfortable using it. I tried switching to Debian w/KDE, but I found I had to do a lot more setup/work to get it where I wanted. K(U)buntu just installs or sets up a lot of things on its own that I needed to do on Debian; like detecting my printer OOTB.But isn't the printing problem solved for like a decade with every modern printer supporting WiFi printing (not invented, but brought to every printer by Apple(tm))?
And in case someone asks, "Who still uses a printer?", well I often need to print shipping labels for myself; and sometimes a document along with it.

Quoting: Fester_MuddI didn't say (and didn't want to imply) anything at all about the quality of Ubuntu. I was solely talking about the right to criticize stuff.Quoting: Eikei think youre purposefully understanding him/her wrong  for me and millions of others Ubuntu is good as is and no OS is perfectQuoting: dziadulewiczBut if you don't like Canonical's choices (which obviously serve their model) why are you keeping with it then? That makes no sense.
Quoting: dziadulewiczMany proclaim "they have left Ubuntu" for something else but keep on talking ill about itSo, to sum it up, if you don't like Ubuntu, you should better use something else (sounds reasonable to me), and when you're using something else, you shouldn't talk bad about Ubuntu (why's that?!?)? How comfortable, so in the end, nobody is talking bad about Ubuntu, no matter what they do!

I could talk more about it, about second and third class customers and the like, but all of us have been through this often enough. I just want other stances to get the same respect.

Quoting: Liam DaweMy line is not yours to judge, Liam. I'm not religious about it (I do buy games to run under Proton for my children e.g.), but I personally did not install Linux to run exes and dlls, and that's a reasonable line, just as others are.Quoting: EikeI get what you’re trying to say, but there’s a big difference. One is Windows, one is just a compatibility layer on Linux. Yeah people can draw whatever line they want, doesn’t mean the line makes sense.Quoting: Liam DaweThe point is to play more games and Proton is a constant win.If the point was to play more games and nothing beyond, I would install Windows.
Obviously, there's something else, something more (or we wouldn't be here), and everybody is free to draw their line where it feels right for them.

The answer in my humble opinion is that it's impossible for us to say if you might love or hate the game.
Personally, I could not appreciate this piece of art. What I found interesting: According to the achievements, of those who finished the last chapter, ten percent didn't play the last but one. (You can access any chapter in the main menu.) So people wanted to know how this all ends, but the game wasn't interesting enough to follow all the way to the end...

ProtonDB now has filters for PC and Steam Deck reports

Quoting: EhvisNice! That was a big nuisance.A "trend" rating could be helpful.
Quoting: StoneColdSpiderFor example...... Look at WRC 8 FIA World Rally Championship.....Applies the other way around as well. Some games update and stop working and reports of previous versions keep the rating high long after the time it started to fail. A reduced weight for older reports or older proton versions would definitely help.
It works great now at least on my system..... But 2 and 3 years ago it didnt seem to work at all...... And those now out of date borked reports seem to still weigh the overall rating down to "Silver".........

Doom (1993): steam deck Unsupported, but Valve just needs to get on re-examining that rating because it performs like it's steam deck Verified. This shares the predominant case in the "Unsupported" category: "Valve is still working on adding support for this game on Steam Deck" - which usually means "it works". According to CheckMyDeck [External Link], that's the reason for 2273 of 3174 "Unsupported" games. There's games in this state for a long time, I'd say a year. @Liam, could you find out more about this? @Smellbringer, this is smelly, ain't it? ;)

Quoting: kuhpunktNo idea, but I guess there's average numbers for the industry somewhere? If it's say one percent in average, they might have some 10.000 devices hanging around. That should be worth to sell them, but I'd expect the refurbished variants to go out of stock not before too long.Quoting: GroganHmmm... that doesn't bode well that there are quantities of "refurbished" Steam Decks already.Do you know how large those "quantities" even are?
1) People not happy and returning them
2) Returns of defective units, repaired.

Quoting: Purple Library GuyYes, dozens [External Link].Quoting: slaapliedjeI'm on the side with 'needs numpad', there are older games that absolutely require the numpad (I'm talking games like Dungeon Master mostly). That reminds me. Are there, like, standalone numpads? Seems like with all the people loving their very different setups that would be a thing.
