Squadron 42 finally 'feature complete', CIG talk up Vulkan support for Star Citizen
26 Oct 2023 at 6:44 pm UTC

Quoting: AnanaceI'd definitely suggest trying it out during one of the free fly periods they run if you're interested in space games, one will be coming up next month for their IAE event.
Does this mean Star Citizen can be tried for free sometimes?

Squadron 42 finally 'feature complete', CIG talk up Vulkan support for Star Citizen

Quoting: Purple Library Guy
Quoting: JarmerThey have a financial incentive not to release anything ever.
What incentive is that? Because, you know, normally you only get paid by customers for a game when you release it. I assume there's some sort of story here?
Yes, and it's absolutely worth reading it up.

They've gathered over 600 million dollars until today (random googled article [External Link] )...

There's no change without some regression...

Despite having the option to keep me logged in enabled, I have to relogin every session on my phone. Unlike with the old system.

Unity CEO John Riccitiello is leaving 'effective immediately'

Quoting: 14No, but it could stay focused on the topical subjects of Unity and the CEO. When the blame so quickly jumps to a giant systemic thing, it becomes a bit fruitless. The vision is too big to take any kind of action, so it is just complaining because it's fun to complain. Like when someone says, "Ah man, it's Monday!" OK, great. Please don't say that to me every week! That would be tiring. Make sense?
How do you think such giant systemic things have changed in the past? Without talking? Or do you believe we're at the end of history, things are not going to change anymore?

There's also little things people can do around the corner: repair cafés, local currencies, cooperatives, ... These are not going to end capitalism of course, but they're making people a bit less dependent.

Quoting: t3gSo you won't play any non native games even if Proton works well? Sometimes the Windows versions running in Proton are better than native as the native ports tend to be abandoned and locked to old libraries.
I know there's some examples for this, but doing my personal experiment, I tried the ten first games I bought on Steam for Linux (in 2012/2013 if I remember correctly), and every single of them was running without any problem, without any tinkering. So, no, I don't think native ports tend to stop working. And old games tend to be abandoned by the developers on any system.

NVIDIA Beta driver 545.23.06 released for Linux, plenty of new features
18 Oct 2023 at 6:50 am UTC

Quoting: TactikalKittyAllows installing of future Nvidia drivers while the current driver is loaded. This is a BIG improvement and will make upgrading NVidia drivers much easier to the less tech savvy people. This is a big positive in my opinion!
I don't understand this point. When I installed a new driver version, of course the old one was running, because, what else?!? Or is this something the Debian package solved for me?

Modern text adventure [I] doesn’t exist is out now

I tried the demo, seemed to work all well natively. The protagonist was walking way too fast though?!?

Ubuntu 23.10 download got pulled down due to a malicious translation
13 Oct 2023 at 5:43 pm UTC

Quoting: SalvatosAnd this is why I'm always a little dubious when companies ask for crowdsourced translations and don't even hire professional reviewers. It's hard enough to ascertain you're getting quality work from professionals in a language you can't even read, but there's really nothing stopping random schmoes from pulling stunts like these if you don't even check.
I was taking part in the crowd sourced translation of Wasteland 2 to German, and while I didn't see something malicious, the result was so bad that I ended up (content spoiled of course and) playing the game in English. There was especially one person which was very diligent, but not very good at it.

Relaxing poolside sim Placid Plastic Duck Simulator gets new DLC

Quoting: EhvisThe most interesting thing I see on the store page is that this new DLC is not actually listed in the "Content for this game" section. Didn't that was even possible. It is listed in the bundle though, so I can still confirm its existence!
Steam's developer side seems to be a mess as well...

Quoting: redneckdrowJust because I can't afford College/University doesn't mean I don't seek to better myself.
Such a sad thing to read.

I don't think this is a thing here (Germany), one "can't afford University". (Some exceptions probably exist.)
