Is there supposed to be no sound in the video? I get it on other videos but not here.

For a sec I thought pulseaudio died on me or something, but nope.

Seriously can't wait until the full release of this one. I played the demo and loved it, bought it around Xmas and have been sitting on it ever since. But I don't want to play it in an unfinished state, because changes to the mechanics like this update brought would change things so much I'd be pretty much stuck restarting.

Quoting: robvvFrom the reports I've seen, the main complaint seems to be that the game is not of the type originally (allegedly) promised. However, hopefully it will be interesting to see what others think. It is on my wishlist but I'm prioritising Beautiful Desolation this month!
I suspect the dev is being brigaded at this point. There are a lot of people who are outright saying they bought the game just to leave a bad review and then refund it.

I tried running that a few months ago, and found the controls wouldn't work properly at all. It runs, but I can't actually play anything.

The upcoming Frictional Games title now has a new teaser - what the heck is going on?

Quoting: DrMcCoyHmm, seeing the portal or whatever that is there, I was thinking maybe duplicating like Star Trek transporters. But that would be just a retreading of the SOMA themes

On the other hand, the other videos look more like something occult. Ghosts and beings from the realm of the dead, like.
From peeking at the speculation based on clues given in the videos, a picture is shaping up that suggest some sort of transhumanist cult I think. A document that someone found talks about replacing parts of something while retaining its identity, and that's definitely consistent with Fractional's themes.

Might be way off base, but people are having a lot of fun with it at least.

Quoting: NeoTheFoxAll I can say is wow. "Still" Tasi? Are they going for a SOMA-like theme about what it means to be yourself? Can't wait for full reveal
Since Amnesia at least (I don't have any experience with Penumbra), Frictional's games have been following a theme of questioning your identity. This one seems to be treading much the same ground, and it'll be interesting to see how they carry it out.

Fifties even, depending just how you define "grew up with video games".
Can confirm...

I played on my friend's Atari in the late 70s:

I remember as a kid during that time trying to figure out how I could afford a PONG game, because I enjoyed the one my aunt had so much.

Quoting: JuliusIs it just my imagination, or are we finally seeing games designed for females, as opposed to superfical efforts of slapping females protagonists into otherwise default(=male) genre games or worse corporate "Barbie world" type of software?

This one at least, seems to tick many boxes... at least that is what I( as a male) would imagine a game being truely designed for a primarily female audience would look like.

Of course that doesn't mean it can not be a fun game for males as well. In fact, I would say a great game needs to be fun for everyone :)
I think it's less that the games are designed for women per se so much that they're not designed for the traditional "gamer" stereotype, which is heavily marketed as a "toys for boys" thing (and well, accompanied by a lot of online arseholes who characterize female players as "casuals" who don't belong in that market). Remember, Overwatch pulled in a pretty huge female market.

And on the flip side, there's a legion of tough guys who cried their eyes out playing To the Moon.

All that said, I do appreciate that we're getting more games like this, where emotions, connection, and in some cases sheer joie de vivre are at the forefront. And if that's designing a game for females, well....market to me boys! I'm right here!

Huh, this seems to be a different experience from what I initially thought it would be, but...different in a good way. It's definitely a game I'll want to play as soon as it comes out, that's certain.

What have you been playing recently and what do you think about it?

Dwarf Fortress. Been learning it the past couple of weeks.

I'm...still not sure why people play this. Hell, I'm not sure why I play this.
