I wasn't planning on getting a Deck OLED, but I somehow ended up messing up my original Deck. I opened it back up to replace the 512GB SSD I installed when I first got it with a 2TB SSD...but after that it randomly shut down on me while playing a game, would fault to fully boot, and the picture would get all glitchy and none of my buttons would work. I think it go an error downloading the 3.5 update since, when it went to reboot, it got stuck on a black screen and got hot, with the screen getting colorful and fuzzy for several seconds, before I manually shut it off. I can only speculate that that experience caused the internals to overheat and damage something.

The 2TB SSD I got definitely wasn't the issue. Not only did it pass SMART no problem, but I just put it into my Deck OLED and everything is fine. Very strange experience.

I'm pretty satisfied with the original Deck; I don't use mine more than once or twice a week either.

Based off my experience with the OLED displays on my Pixel phones, having one on my Steam Deck would be pretty nice. I like original IPS LCD screen fine though.

I guess, in short, this newer Deck is a "maybe" for me right now.

I'm using Kubuntu 23.04 (23.10 upgrade hasn't dropped yet). I'm glad that Plasma will be defaulting to Wayland, as I've found it to work very well in 5.27.

I'm excited. I do love Plasma, and I've been using Plasma w/Wayland for the past year or two. It's gotten really good. Especially with Plasma 5.27; previous versions had some bugs, but 5.27 has been very stable for me.

In my case, the issue is that Debian does not detect my household's printer by default. Every time I set up Debian, I have to do "sudo systemctl enable cups-browsed" in a terminal to get my printer detected. And the last time I did that (admittedly before I installed a dedicated wireless module), I will still have issues getting something to print.

And in case someone asks, "Why is inputting that command into a terminal to get your printer recognized a big deal?" I'm not saying it's a big deal. I'm saying it's an extra step that I need to do when setting up Debian that I don't need to do in K(U)buntu, because the latter picks up my printer by default.

Now, what is interesting to me is that I recall being able to use the printer without needing a Wi-Fi dongle plugged into my desktop. At some point, I needed to have my desktop connected to my home Wi-Fi to be able to use the printer. However, thanks to that, I did discover why KDE Connect never worked me. Obviously, it's because my desktop was never connected to Wi-Fi (and it didn't have ufw disabled), so of course devices like my Steam Deck would never detect my desktop. Hindsight is 20/20, as they say.

Tried re-installing Mass Effect LE and using the latest Proton Experiment. Game wouldn't launch; EA App is still a piece of garbage.
