My favorite steam related memory is Potato ARG hype back when Portal 2 was about to come out.
A bunch of people in Killing Floor 1 collectively gathering together just absolutely ecstatic to look at a door and unweld it for a while to see one singular potato and going "WHAT DOES IT MEAN!?".
People genuinely playing any game valve tells them to for achievements just to get a whiff of the new game before launch. People literally decoding audio images from a portal 1 update that changed the radios when you moved them to hyper specific locations, being rewarded for going fully insane about easter eggs and collaborating as much as you see the community collaborate and speculate nowadays whenever Hideo Kojima releases a weird new trailer for a game with several scenes out of context.
We're probably never going to have anything like that ever again for a big release and that makes me sad, the art of the ARG is something pretty much only relegated to smaller projects and youtube analog horror these days, not big releases like what Valve did. I feel like if you tried to do it now, people are so accustomed to not having this that it'd probably go unnoticed, enough time has passed that people just don't expect things like that to happen anymore outside of the horror genre.

I'm more interested in reliable buttons that feel better to mash during QTEs, honestly.

It was really disheartening to see people heap shit on the deck during the period of time this was unverified because I was playing this new kex port before it was verified, it worked fine, but it was almost becoming a meme to say "It runs on everything EXCEPT steam deck" which was stupid.
The real problem is, I wish we had a way to roll back to the dosbox version in steam's beta branch, because a 1GB download just to get the .wad files I want for a port that actually has freelook unlike this one is a complete waste of internet, luckily I have the GOG version too where this isn't a problem.

Still waiting eagerly for the day I can use a SteamOS-like distro with Nvidia cards, complete with working real time TDP/framerate cap settings and such. But from what I hear gamescope-session isn't even ready for Nvidia cards yet, even after wayland explicit sync became a thing.

I wonder how the puzzle that changes your desktop background works if you play it on steam deck.

Bought it, I'm loving it so far, the amount of options they have in the options menu is staggeringly impressive, I don't think I've ever seen anything with so many knobs to personalize it like this before, that's super appreciated. Glad they have steam deck graphics presets too.
I'm seeing a lot of complaints about difficulty but I quickly picked up on the idea that I'm not supposed to be playing like Doomguy, I'm supposed to be playing like John McClane from Die Hard and every gameplay decision I make just kinda slots into place from there.

I would think this is more interesting if that circle in the middle was actually a universal disc drive that is pre-configured to auto load your physical game library into an emulator, but it appears to be there just to aesthetically look more like a dreamcast, which in that case, why would I not just buy a general purpose mini PC and put a linux distro with emudeck on it? It feels like that would be a cheaper and more space efficient option overall.
KDE Plasma 6.2 adding a pop-up for donations, plus they want to make a next-generation KDE OS

I think a donation message asking for money for a desktop environment that is objectively better than Windows Explorer (and subjectively better than a lot of linux DEs) is totally 100% fair, I don't see this as anywhere near the the same thing as when Microsoft symbolic links my directories to OneDrive without my consent and then says
"hey, buy OneDrive, your storage is running low"
"But I don't use onedrive"
"Yes you do, look"
"Oh, what, fuck you microsoft! Now I have to get all this stuff to local storage and unlink those directories before I tell you to fuck off."
Now, if KDE changed something around to dark pattern me into donating the way Onedrive does this, this would be a different story. But it's not doing that, so there's no issue here.

GameCube and Wii emulator Dolphin getting an official Flatpak for Linux and Steam Deck

From the bottom of my heart, what I really wish they'd do is give us a clear way to run the latest development versions via Appimage or simply via a package manager. Just anything that makes the install process easy, I don't care how it gets to me as long as I don't have to build from source. I have easy ways to get the latest stable release of dolphin on linux already, but my friend wants me to use the dev branch to netplay with him and building from source is a COLOSSAL pain in the ass and a pain point for me being on linux on the whole.
Even downloading the git build from the AUR is a problem, because I get a "dirty" build of the latest version, which still disqualifies me from netplay with my friend due to being technically the same version, but still version mismatched, and netplay is the entire reason I'm even on the dev build to begin with.
How come we have MacOS and Android download options for the dev branch build but not a linux one?
