I wonder how the puzzle that changes your desktop background works if you play it on steam deck.

Bought it, I'm loving it so far, the amount of options they have in the options menu is staggeringly impressive, I don't think I've ever seen anything with so many knobs to personalize it like this before, that's super appreciated. Glad they have steam deck graphics presets too.
I'm seeing a lot of complaints about difficulty but I quickly picked up on the idea that I'm not supposed to be playing like Doomguy, I'm supposed to be playing like John McClane from Die Hard and every gameplay decision I make just kinda slots into place from there.

I would think this is more interesting if that circle in the middle was actually a universal disc drive that is pre-configured to auto load your physical game library into an emulator, but it appears to be there just to aesthetically look more like a dreamcast, which in that case, why would I not just buy a general purpose mini PC and put a linux distro with emudeck on it? It feels like that would be a cheaper and more space efficient option overall.
KDE Plasma 6.2 adding a pop-up for donations, plus they want to make a next-generation KDE OS

I think a donation message asking for money for a desktop environment that is objectively better than Windows Explorer (and subjectively better than a lot of linux DEs) is totally 100% fair, I don't see this as anywhere near the the same thing as when Microsoft symbolic links my directories to OneDrive without my consent and then says
"hey, buy OneDrive, your storage is running low"
"But I don't use onedrive"
"Yes you do, look"
"Oh, what, fuck you microsoft! Now I have to get all this stuff to local storage and unlink those directories before I tell you to fuck off."
Now, if KDE changed something around to dark pattern me into donating the way Onedrive does this, this would be a different story. But it's not doing that, so there's no issue here.

GameCube and Wii emulator Dolphin getting an official Flatpak for Linux and Steam Deck

From the bottom of my heart, what I really wish they'd do is give us a clear way to run the latest development versions via Appimage or simply via a package manager. Just anything that makes the install process easy, I don't care how it gets to me as long as I don't have to build from source. I have easy ways to get the latest stable release of dolphin on linux already, but my friend wants me to use the dev branch to netplay with him and building from source is a COLOSSAL pain in the ass and a pain point for me being on linux on the whole.
Even downloading the git build from the AUR is a problem, because I get a "dirty" build of the latest version, which still disqualifies me from netplay with my friend due to being technically the same version, but still version mismatched, and netplay is the entire reason I'm even on the dev build to begin with.
How come we have MacOS and Android download options for the dev branch build but not a linux one?

Black Myth: Wukong shows very clearly Valve are selling a lot of Steam Decks

It's important to note that Tim Sweeney is an eternally salty dude with a chip on his shoulder about valve so lodged in there that he very likely just dislikes linux simply because valve is supporting it, who very likely only said what he did to hurt Steam Deck in the eyes of developers. The whole, "Woe is me, Steam Deck is underperforming, we just simply don't have the resources to support such a niche platform (after I laid off 830 developers) [External Link] oh well"
I don't really trust in the slightest that he is refusing fortnite support for proton/WINE in earnestly good faith. I assume devs had to twist his arm to even get EAC working at all on linux.

The NoVR mod for Half-Life: Alyx has a big Summer 2024 update out now

Playing Half Life: Alyx without VR is like playing Time Crisis or House of the Dead without a Light Gun. Sure, a mouse will get the job done, but it's not the same and I hope people who play it for the first time with this NoVR mod will judge it for what it is, and not as the original Alyx experience.
Additionally, I wish the direction they went with porting alyx from VR was something more akin to the way Resident Evil 7 plays than the more semi fast paced direction this has gone in since that makes way more sense for the pace of the game in VR, but hey, I'm just happy more people will get to play the game at all. I'm still rooting for this mod to succeed, just so I can have the ability replay the game on the go with my steam deck, and out of curiosity.
I highly recommend to people that if they are gonna play the game this way, they should install the Merciless Half Life Alyx mod to balance things out a bit.

Quoting: ShabbyXI genuinely don't think people liking Stadia would have helped change this. [External Link]Quoting: PyrateStadia failing is a net positive, who knows what will happen to gaming if cloud streaming got accepted this early (it's probably inevitable, but the later it happens the better).Stadia's downfall was a *major* blow to Vulkan. And that in turn majorly affects Linux gaming.
