Proton Experimental gets fixes for Ubisoft Connect, Once Human, Burnout Paradise Remastered

Fixed AVPro playback in VRChat.
Hell yeah. I have been waiting a long time for that one. I wish they clarified if you still needed --enable-avpro-in-proton in launch options after this fix though.

Nexus mods want feedback from Linux / Steam Deck users on their new cross-platform app
4 Jul 2024 at 10:44 am UTC

"Multiple loadouts (modlists) per game."
"Deleting downloaded mods from your Mod Library."
"Rewind - a global undo feature that will allow you to walk back changes to your loadout one at a time or jump back to a specific point in time."
"Collections support"

So basically all of the feedback I would have given is already covered in the roadmap except for maybe like, "Launch Mod Loader instead of game when game is launched from steam." and "Auto-Change mod load order to optimal layout as reported by community" kinda similar to what LOOT does.

Will anything dethrone the Steam Deck? Probably not

It's not that I don't welcome competition to the deck, hell, I even think that that the steam deck APU hardware is already getting a bit long in the tooth and could do with an upgrade, it's that the competition doesn't have the dual touchpad, dual analog, 4 grip trigger controls.

I use every last input on the deck and it's ruined other controllers for me. If even a Steam Deck 2 didn't have those, I wouldn't be interested.

The fact that the competition doesn't have linux is not really a problem for me since I can just wipe windows and put something like CachyOS Handheld Edition, ChimeraOS, or Bazzite on it, but the controls are non negotiable.

Proton Experimental gets fixes for Helldivers 2, Ghost of Tsushima and more

Quoting: WMan22Would be nice if Valve sorted Ghost of Tsushima multiplayer out with Sony. Seems like a proton issue, since there's no word on it being an anticheat issue as far as I'm aware.
It's actually a PSN and PS Overlay issue from my understanding sadly, and I don't see Sony puting in the effort to fix their PS Overlay on Linux anytime soon. 😭
I understand this, but what I was saying is, if it's not hooking into the kernel like an anticheat, what exactly is stopping a fix? Nobody's mentioned what the actual issue is with PSN and PS Overlay, and if it's not hooking into your kernel, surely it is an issue that can be addressed with specific dependency management/fixes on proton's end, right?

Killer Bean looks absolutely nuts in the latest trailer

Wow, I was already greatly looking forward to this game as soon as I heard it existed, I didn't know that the developer was gonna make a native linux build too.

Gears of War: E-Day announced and it's coming to Steam

This is cool and all but what I would really like instead is a "Gears of War: Marcus Fenix collection" that contains all the gears games that aren't on PC yet or haven't yet gotten steam releases.

KDE Plasma 6.1 Beta released with Wayland Explicit Sync support

Quoting: tmtvlI don't know whether Plasma 6 is really ready for prime time yet. I've been using it on both Arch and OpenSUSE TW for a couple of months now and it seems to have issues with remembering window positions and sizes. I had to add a window rule to maximize Konsole despite having 'remember window size' checked in the settings, for example.
The biggest issue I'm having is, unless I manually block screen and sleep locking under "power and battery" on my taskbar, or run games with gamemoderun (which in many cases has made my framerate worse on CachyOS), if I play a game with a DualSense, it's as if KDE does not detect any inputs even though the game is detecting my controller inputs through steam, so my computer auto-sleeps itself while a game is open. I'm not the only one with this issue. [External Link]

Really annoying when I'm trying to play Tekken 8.

NVK driver gets DRM Format Modifiers to work with Gamescope in Mesa 24.1
19 May 2024 at 4:00 am UTC

Quoting: Nic264I have something close to that in NixOS using specialisations [External Link]: in a way you can see it like a dualboot where I have one NixOS install with proprietary Nvidia and stable Mesa for my iGPU and another install with source-built unstable Mesa all the way, except everything that can be shared is.
These days I use Mesa for work and some gaming (mainly osu!) and reboot to the proprietary driver for stuff that isn't there yet.

You can probably achieve something similar with OSTree-based distros like Fedora Silverblue/Kinoite as it supports “parallel-installable filesystem trees [External Link]”.
I appreciate the help, but I've tried 7 different times to learn NixOS, and it's too much of a clusterfuck to learn for a non programmer who isn't willing to donate about a month or three of time trying to use it. I also lost interest in trying to learn it an 8th time since it feels radioactive right now thanks to some drama happening behind the scenes at the moment so oh well.

The parallel installable file system in kinoite thing sounds interesting though, I didn't know that was a feature. Might give it a shot in the future, thanks.

NVK driver gets DRM Format Modifiers to work with Gamescope in Mesa 24.1

I wish there was an auto swap utility akin to prime-run/Nvidia Optimus where I could use the proprietary driver for games that run better with it, and NVK for games that run better with that, like A Hat In Time.

Even if I could use it by just swapping to it like a desktop environment in SDDM, where it'd be like Plasma (NVK Wayland) or (NVK X11)

This way I could like, check on the progress periodically without compromising my core experience, cause hot damn NVK is moving impressively fast in terms of updates and new features.
