GOG's Black Friday Sale is live now with some big discounts

Just to add some of my favorites, all played from GOG on Steam Deck:
Colt Canyon [External Link] - $3.49 - it's like a Westernized Risk of Rain? Quick fun "runs" with snappy combat and various heros to unlock. I like the rifles and the long pistols best.

FAR: Lone Sails [External Link] - $2.69 - linear adventure game of about 2.5 hours in length with some fun new ideas. Power your little sand boat and manage some of its systems while navigating a wasteland. There's a sequel too, but it's on Steam only (?)

Loop Hero [External Link] - $4.39 - Another roguelike looping game where you place card tiles to influence what sorts of monster spawns and rewards you get as your knight autobattles around in a circle. Lots of depth and amazing chiptunes.

Technobabylon [External Link] - $8.49 - An adventure game set in the future where a digital bohemian and a grizzled cop have a murder to solve. Smartly written with very good characterizations, and a strong sense of place and time (maybe even reminiscent of Beneath a Steel Sky, that 1994 gem)

Hob [External Link] - $4.39 - Doesn't play great on Deck, but it's serviceable. Runic's final game after Torchlight 2, it's a language-free action adventure sort of like Zelda, with more puzzles and more abilities. Fantastic art and visuals. It's a gem and sadly overlooked.

Other faves not on sale: Star Renegades [External Link] (turn based action combat, like a blend of FTL meets XCom meets FF Tactics, much better than the 3.7 rating on GOG); Sable [External Link] (combat-free exploration adventure game with BotW climbing? It had a touching story and captures that sense of invincibility and "the world is HUGE!" that we all had as teens); Perfect Tides (another teen drama set in year 2000, I really enjoyed it, it's better than it looks)

Steam Deck OLED: Limited Edition White and Steam Deck Australia have launched

Quoting: Craggles086Yeah, gotta work out if I get this one or wait for Steam Deck 2 now, meanwhile New Zealand must be fuming as no mention of it in the release notes..
I was playing FF7 Remake with HDR on my OLED Deck the other night at 60fps. If you wait, you might be able to play it at 90fps with the same settings and 800p.. two or more years from now.

Get one now, they're great devices, and they support Linux!

I am eagerly awaiting the mod community's efforts towards this game. I'm not sure I'll buy it or play it, but I do want to see what they come up with.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition gets updated, needs a fix on Steam Deck

Quoting: BlackBloodRumJust play the original version(s) with the community HD patches, they're better.
I was going to say: is this version worth playing yet? Arguably not.

Steam Deck SteamOS 3.6.20 update released for everyone

I wish Valve would incorporate AMD Chill into SteamOS: when I stop providing inputs, after a second or two drop my fps to my target minimum. When input occurs immediately ramp up fps to my target max.

EA / Respawn now block Apex Legends from running on Linux and Steam Deck

Quoting: BeamboomThis is a massive downer for me. Apex has become my major title over the last couple of years, I've got a long friends list in that game of players I met ingame and hook up with regularly.

So yeah, major blow. Surely, surely there must be a way for us to get Linux at least on par with Windows on the anti-cheat situation.
Valve could step in and say that on Steam, VAC must be used.
Otherwise we are looking at kernel level controls. That's not going to fly based on the foundational principles behind Linux. --- edit: but maybe Valve could step in and implement kernel level anticheat on their SteamOS package?
But then... Won't that just mean cheat creators edit the SteamOS package, remove the kernel access, and repackage?

This news is sad but expected. The devs know a route to close off some small portion of cheat engines, and that is denying Proton and Linux.

How soon until these MP games are entirely streamed -- you download a thin client which connects to a server, and all gameplay elements are streamed to your PC, MMO-style?
Then mandate controller input only, create some "reasonableness" check for number of inputs received in a given span of time... Eliminate cheat creators by locking down the game so that all you receive is video streamed to your device and your inputs are sent back. That's likely the future of gaming. Once Fortnite or Valorant decides to go down that road, everyone will follow.

Behaviour Interactive has acquired Darkest Dungeon developer Red Hook Studios

Quoting: sonic2kkI wasn't concerned that they would take another deal, moreso that I am soured on any studio that accepts it (yes, even Tomorrow Corporation which is my profile picture, I am ashamed to have supported them). A buyout here is a better deal, but being bought by the team behind Dead by Daylight (or any developer that includes invasive client-side anti-cheat and/or Epic Online Services in their games) is just more reason to avoid anything from Red Hook Studios in the future.
Don't get me wrong, I really hate that Epic was paying for exclusivity - but I absolutely cannot blame the devs for taking the deal. Would you rather make a game and be gifted the funds for it, or try to make a game and go bankrupt? Hell, even less extreme - would you rather work for 2-6 years and launch for a chance to go big and get paid, or launch with a significant cash sum and definitely get paid? I despise Epic for many reasons, and they are truly awful for consumers however I cannot deny that for developers, it is a no brainer. They offer lower fees (12% IIRC?) regardless of exclusivity, a cash sum if you do go exclusive with them, and their own tooling (Unreal, EOS, EAC). EOS is of course not as well developed as Steamworks as far as I'm aware, but paired with everything else it again makes sense for developers to go that route.

I personally find yet another acquisition within the games industry a much worse alternative.

I do find it funny that Epic exclusivity seems to be used as a beta period for games now though; they know they won't make much money on epic so they'll wait to release on steam once the exclusivity has dried up and their game is in an actual good state.
As an addendum to that, there are no restrictions on HOW you spend the exclusivity payment. You could buy your staff sports cars, or the founders could use 80% of the payout to buy themselves houses. Or they could pile the funding into wage costs or lease costs. I can't blame them for taking that deal either!
