Quoting: LoftyBut nobody besides Valve and Microsoft is in a position to come with such an agressive pricing. And since Microsoft is Xbox centric, when it comes to gaming... Valve is alone, imo.Quoting: Tom BEven with the delay in shipping the Steam Deck I think it would be at least a year until someone else could even sell something similar, and that's if they green lit it today and started development immediately.Probably yea. But i do think if the idea of PC handhelds becomes as mainstream as Console Handhelds as a provable concept then it will happen eventually.

SteamOS 3.0 --> Steam Deck
ChimeraOS --> PC

Quoting: pmstroexWill I buy one ? No. But I will happily try the new SteamOS on my Steam machine. Provided that is an option. I'm one of the fools that actually bought one and have used it often enough to say that it wasn't a bad investment. I also use it as a Kodi machine btw. If that is no longer an option I will probably chuck ChimeraOS on there.Personnally, I would like to see Valve cooperate with the team from ChimeraOS so that they may pick the support on the PC side of SteamOS 3.0, which is Arch based too and is probably using similar tools too.

Quoting: Loftyscammers (not using the other word as it's gross) are already selling these for upto $5,000 on ebay. More fool you if you spend that money on hardware like this. But the average price is coming out at more like $1,000.#Facepalm

Should receive mine in Q2 2022... Gosh! That's a long time waiting!
Thing is, are you realizing how many of us "pledged" for this device as opposed to the Steam Machines where even us, Linux users, could hardly find a reason to buy one?
To me, it feels like the Steam Deck is on a good start. It's the most important part.
Edit: Liam. You will have to add a new hardware entry, in the survey. :grin:

Quoting: hiryuI managed to reserve around 10:18 am PST. I can't believe I pulled it off... I was trying over and over through the browser, mobile app, and the desktop app over and over until I pulled it off in one of them.Lucky you... Still trying... Nothing works.
That being said, I'm surprised Valve didn't deploy a lot more capacity in anticipation of this. I'm sure they ramped up some, but they had to know this was still going to happen.

Quoting: dubigrasuQuite sure that you are right. It's going to happen, but my guess is that they'll witness multiple downsides to this. Tearing/stuttering on Windows is far worse than on Linux (and probably Gamescope), for one. Windows 10 scaling is not the best on this form factor and what will be the driver support, on such a custom silicon? Some of them might decide to switch back to SteamOS, if the experience is great.Quoting: TuxeeI explained why a couple of posts below but suffice to say that it will happen. Already media is buzzing about "runs Linux but don't worry, you can easily install Windows on it" and is not so far fetched to believe that gamers in search of performance and a greater gaming library will go this route.Quoting: dubigrasuI hope they'll put up also a polished installer for the new SteamOS 3.0.Why would they? Most Windows users never ever install an OS at all - that's something for the Linux crowd. In addition setting up Windows on such a fully integrated device is far from "super easy, barely an inconvenience" while OTOH you already have a shiny nice frontend running which serves the purpose perfectly. After all we are talking about a console.
I can easily imagine that many will just strip SteamOS out of it and install Windows, but at the same time others might be impressed with SteamOS and tempted to install on their PC.
I didn't said "most" or "everyone", I said "many" which is very likely a possibility.
Edit: stupid grammar. Man, I hate this.

Quoting: Tuxee... And I read reviews about the GPD Win where they complained that Win10 was unfit for the task. In AMD Fidelity FX news...
"FSR uses super-optimized spatial upscaling technologies to help boost your framerates and deliver high-quality, high-resolution gaming experiences, without having to upgrade to a new graphics card."It will certainly have a part to play for the Steam Deck.
