Quoting: kaimanSorry for my ignorance, but is there some kind of appimage store? I really find the appimage concept convenient, but is there something for the automatic updates aspect?Quoting: SchattenspiegelStill don't see a usecase for snap (or fatpak) on the desktop that would not be better (less time, less space, more reliable functionality) solved by Appimage if you do not get a native package.Amen! I've been distributing Linux binaries in AppImage format for quite a while, and I really like how they're small and self-contained, with no daemon required in the background for them to run.
I had looked at both snap and flatpak as alternatives, but the whole idea of distributing binaries in the first place was for stuff to just work across distributions with minimal dependencies.
In general though, I'll want to use the regular binaries, managed via the package repository. With the image based applications, if some library they include has vulnerabilities, all the applications need to be patched and updated individually. With regular programs, the library in question can be updated and all the dependent applications are golden.

Quoting: Purple Library GuyI needed the reference to appreciate it:Quoting: GuestOh, that was just Harald's Revenge.Quoting: MohandevirI had that with xfce on manjaro when I used a bluetooth headset.Fixed several synchronization bugs that could momentarily lock up the X server when moving/resizing/focusing OpenGL and Vulkan windows when PRIME Sync is enabled [Linux]Mmmm... Could probably solve an issue with a GTX laptop that I'm testing, atm... When I try to raise the sound, while playing a game, the whole display freezes for about ten seconds, before resuming (if it resumes).

Sorry, I didn't follow the latest developments on this one... How are VR performances on Linux, recently?
Edit: Personnally, I'll probably wait for the Index 2, when Valve will decide to liquidate the Index at 90% off. Ok, one may dream. :D

It's been 2 weeks, approximately, that I've been running Ubuntu 20.04 on my main gaming rig... I just ignored Snap stuff and installed everything I need from the terminal... In my case one command line on a minimal Ubuntu install:
"sudo apt install steam steam-devices numlockx"
Forgot something? Oh yeah! gnome-tweak-tool to remove the desktop icons. Personnal preference.
Comes with Nividia driver 440.84. Quite the best you can get. Gamemode pre-installed... No tearing/stuttering issues, great performances and didn't get a single bug... All my tick boxes are checked. Pretty happy about that release. :)

Quite instructive comments from all of you. Thanks!
Still it's funny to think that, as of October 2019, I was still gaming on my 7 year old i7-3770 and paired with a good GPU, I was still having a great gaming experience. I bought my Ryzen 5 3600 because I feared for a hardware failure, not because it was outdated. Sure, I'm not into the 4K and/or 144hz race. My 1080p 60hz HDTV with in-game Vsync is still my target and will be for the foreseable futur. As long as I have a silent build that gives me a solid 60fps (tearing and stuttering free) plus a little headroom, I'll be satisfied. Above that it's just overpowered/overpriced.
But that's just my situation and point of view.
Have fun with your high end gaming rig building!

Still, atm, the biggest gain is when you Jump from 4c/4t to 4c/8t. For a budget build, these Ryzen can be a good deal.

Quoting: ageresExactly why I said that it didn't make the new Ryzen 3 future proof.Quoting: Mohandevir6fps between 4 cores to 8 cores.I'd say, +10% is a significant amount of growth. Maybe much bigger price differences between CPUs make it unworthy, but at least it shows that games actually do use multithreading. Doubling cores doesn't mean doubling the performance.
Quoting: MohandevirIt seems to be a per game thing.Sure, but with new 8C16T consoles coming, I believe all AAA games are going to be multithreaded, using 16 threads efficiently. For people who want to build a gaming computer without the need to upgrade it in the next few years, I would recommend a Ryzen 7 or at least six-core Ryzen 5.

6fps between 4 cores to 8 cores.
Doom Eternal seems to be taking advantage of more cores:
https://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/software/doom_eternal_pc_performance_analysis_and_optimisation_guide/3 [External Link]
But still it can perform well on 2 cores/4threads when paired with a good gpu, as noted by the author.

It seems to be a per game thing.
Looking forward to the cpu scaling of Metro: Exodus with my Ryzen 5 3600.

You may have more than 4 cores, but there is not much gain from that... For the moment. I'm quite sure that if/when 8 cores become the mainstream solution and with Vulkan :) and DX12  adoption, developers will find a way of taping in that potential.

Quoting: ageresRyzen 5 2600 is better but has the same price.Don't take that for granted, but I think that many actual games are targeting 4 cores CPUs, but that doesn't make these Ryzens future proof. This said, it's my impression from info I found here and there, it might already be outdated and there are probably others, in this forum, that are in a much better situation than me to comfirm that.
Quoting: Guestmost games, at least on Linux, don't really use more than 4 coresI would say the opposite. The newest games I've played recently seem to be very good at multi-threading - Shadow of the TR, Doom Eternal, Wolfenstein 2, Resident Evil 3...

Quoting: tuubiI was able to login a couple of minutes ago... Thanks anyway.Quoting: MohandevirAs a workaround, you could try enabling two factor authentication (Steam Guard) and using the mobile app for this. You can just disable it afterwards.Quoting: Guest... I've always been leery of linking my Steam account with others. Call me paranoid; 99.8% of the time it probably is.I totally get your point, I feel the same, but for Paradox, I can make an exception.
This said, it seems there is a problem somewhere in the email process... Can't get the SteamGuard pin email, when I try to connect to my account. It seems it's getting lost somewhere and my email is not the issue, I tested it. Guess I'll try later.
EDIT: Well I guess you've already enabled 2FA, but the mobile app is still an option.
