Battlefield 1 gets EA anticheat in September - will be left broken on Steam Deck / Linux

Quoting: basedWelp, that's it, it was a good run.
Next game's free for me, how about that EA? You steal I steal.
If the next one is anything like Battlefield 2042, which is multiplayer online without a campaign mode, then that'll save you the trouble of getting it in the first place.

Battlefield 1 gets EA anticheat in September - will be left broken on Steam Deck / Linux

Good thing I only cared about the Campaign mode on Battlefield 1 and finished that up after Battlefield V was infected with this POS anticheat.

Quoting: MohandevirLet's just hope Microsoft end up locking them out of kernel access, just to make this a complete waste of time and money, for EA.
If only that same logic can be applied to all kernel anticheats from companies like Activision and Riot Games.

Resident Evil 2 makes a return to GOG with lots of improvements

Quoting: CyrilThese 3 Resident Evil games are/will be only available at GOG at the moment, Linux support is not really the topic IMHO...
I can see why these 3 Resident Evil games would be on GOG since Steam pretty much got everything else from this series and GOG are the ones that are making improvements to this game. If Capcom were to make these changes to the game, then I can see it also appear on Steam.

Steam sets a new record with 37.2 million concurrent users online
27 Aug 2024 at 2:12 pm UTC

Awesome record for Steam and they continue to increase as time goes on because there's always more new games to come that'll push those numbers up.

As for Randy last X/Twitter post, if there were Steam competitors during its infancy, then they would've had some good competition. However, these competitors that we have today came in after Steam had already established themselves as the de facto place to buy your PC games digitally. At the end, competition is still great as long as Valve isn't killing/buying them off one by one.

Celebrating 6 years since Valve announced Steam Play Proton for Linux

Happy birthday to Steam Play Proton

Who would've thought Linux gaming would become what it is today with Steam Play Proton and I'm glad for its existence because without it, I would've never imagine playing the many games I have on my Steam Deck.

It's crazy that it's been 6 years since it started and it's come a very long way from the time I first tried it out on an old gaming laptop with my small Steam library of games (which has since grown by leaps and bounds) that ended up not working at the time to working great now

Humble is doing a big Resident Evil Bundle again that's worth a look
21 Aug 2024 at 6:30 pm UTC

As good as this bundle is, it's missing RE4 Remake and if they add that in, it would be a steal at $30 despite many who despise Capcom for the DRM. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother to get it since I already own all of these and would've gotten it if I hadn't bought them back then.

Microsoft breaks some Linux dual-boots in a recent Windows update

Good thing I haven't use MS products for a long time and stuff like this will continue to be why I don't bother with it. They can take their products and shove it

Most game release happen on Tuesday/Thursday and it's been this way for a long time now

GOG confirm Resident Evil 2 re-release date for August

Quoting: PenglingResident Evil 2 has always been my favourite of the bunch. It's just a pity that re-releases are inevitably missing the content that was added to the Nintendo 64 version*!

*That port was an incredible technical feat [External Link] in and of itself, crunching down two CD-ROMs into one 64MB cartridge, and then it managed to have more to it than the other versions!
Personally, I prefer the PS1 version because it's the one that I played originally and didn't have any interest in the Nintendo N64 to play the game again when it was rereleased, despite the additions on that version. Also, I still like the fact that it was innovative at the time on PS1 imho since no other game managed to have the story converged, regardless of which disk you started out with first.

As a side note, some purist will never like the remake version of RE2 because of the changes they made to it, but I like it just as much as the original

Quoting: clatterfordslimYou cannot beat the original Resident Evil 2.
Looking forward to this being released and will be playing it on my ArcoLinux Gaming PC. I've finally taken the plunge and moved to Linux full time for gaming, as before relying on Windows. Just played through Uncharted 4 through Proton and can honestly say I am enjoying gaming in Linux. I poo pooed Proton when it first released and thought it would never get off the ground, but that was mainly in it's first year. Since then, with the Steam-Deck release and the amazing work done in Proton and WINE for us to be able to play PC games, from nearly on first day release, is amazing.
I felt the same way when I was trying out Proton for the first time and came away disappointed because it didn't convince me that Linux was ready to play Windows games. However, once I got the Steam Deck and try out a bunch of games, I was amazed that it played Windows games better than I expected. Now, I'm thinking of building a PC to use one of the SteamOS variants like Bazzite, ChimeraOS, etc.

Valve released Windows drivers for Steam Deck OLED but no official support

If you're thinking about Windows due to other stores and launchers, perhaps first look into the likes of the Heroic Games Launcher and NonSteamLaunchers.
I don't think launchers is the biggest reason to use Windows but more like those that want to use mods that don't work well in Linux or play games with crappy anti-cheat software like Ricochet from Activision and the ones from EA would be why they go back to it. Solve and fix issues like the ones I've mentioned and Linux would be a good alternative to ditch Windows.
