Unity cancels the stupid Runtime Fee

I'm glad Godot continues to gain ground over Unity since it wasn't a smart decision to implemented this fee that they're now canceling.

The Crew 2 and The Crew Motorfest are getting offline modes
11 Sep 2024 at 2:07 pm UTC

I guess it was good timing because The Crew 2 is currently $1 without the Season Pass on Steam and once this offline mode is enabled, I might test it out on the Steam Deck to see if works. If this offline stuff works well, I hope they apply it to other games down the line because it would suck to have their crappy anti-cheat still lurking around after they stop supporting the game.

Finally, I wished companies like EA and Activision would add a offline mode to their games because their anti-cheat sucks for those of us that only care about the campaign modes on Battlefield and COD.

The creator of Lutris has joined up with Playtron for PlaytronOS

the development of PlaytronOS "directly contributes to the evolution of several open source projects".
I guess it could be truly beneficial for all at the end. But recently I've gotten really tired of the "it serves a greater cause, so anything bad that might happen is okay" notion. Web3 is the red flag for me here. But who knows, maybe with all that corporate backing, this could help with low hanging fruit such as anticheat on linux for example. We'll see.
The moment they mentioned anything about crypto and Web3, that was a red flag for me because I don't want any of that crap on my gaming systems and I'm still not convinced that they would ever solve the kernel anti-cheat situation even though they made a bold claim on their website that it can play all Windows games.

AMD's Z2 Extreme chip due out sometime in 2025 for handheld PCs

I can see Valve using a custom version of the Z2 because the chip might have features that they might not want and at the same time, want to keep the low power profile that the current Steam Deck is using today. While every other handheld PC have power starting at around 8W, Steam Deck can go as low as 3W and imagine how much more gaming time you can get at 3W with those new chips for emulators.

Get lost in a huge castle in the 2.5D metroidvania 'The Throne' on September 30

I might think about this game since it's one of my favorite genres but the art style reminds me of those mobile games that you see on iOS and Android and it doesn't look like a Metroidvania from what's shown in the video.

Square Enix invests in Playtron for their Linux-based PlaytronOS - first Alpha out now

I remember the articles posted here about Playtron and if I wasn't convinced then with their intentions, nothing is going to change that now with Square Enix investing in them.

Linux smashes another market share record for August 2024 on Statcounter
3 Sep 2024 at 2:16 pm UTC

Love to see Linux continue to increase its share. Hopefully, it continues to grow more when people start seeing the light and dump Windows with it's AI and ads embedded into the OS.

Quoting: Geppeto35To get back to the news: As this increase is clearly due to Chineses:
What's happen in China so people are moving into linux that fast? End of windows XP or pirate licences? Some USA's laws on patriotic stuff? Political decision from China's government? Governmental changes in OS making this fast increase in Linux?
Do we know why?
It might be because of the release of Black Myth Wukong and seeing that it's number 1 for the most played game on Steam Deck in August, it might have helped sell more units over there.

Steam Deck reaches over 16,000 playable and verified games

I'm currently playing Remnant 2 using Geforce Now on the Steam Deck since it natively doesn't play nice with this game and Frontier Hunter Erza on the Steam Deck since I'm a sucker for good/bad Metroidvania games.

And the number of developers with multiplayer games that just refuse to enable their anti-cheat. I really hope over the next year as the Steam Deck continues to sell really well that developers will reconsider that.
I've been observing the opposite trend... I checked areweanticheatyet.com at the beginning of the year and it was at around 60% supported/playable, and now it's at 54% supported/playable. Kind of sad, really.

I'd love to see a report from a developer who had it enabled and then disabled it, saying, "yes, Linux really did cause all these problems we were afraid of, and we're glad to get rid of Linux support!" I'm only seeing companies not wanting to take the risk.
I wouldn't be surprised if some of the changes had to do with the EA or Riot Anticheat being added recently or games that used to work but broke.

Battlefield 1 gets EA anticheat in September - will be left broken on Steam Deck / Linux

Quoting: hazukashiidesuHeh doesn't affect me.. Battlefield V Battlefield 1 Battlefield 4 was the last good battlefield game..

Spoiler, click me
Actually this really is a bummer.. I've got a few workmates I join for early saturday morning BF1(only time we all have available anymore with kids and all), maybe we'll find another game, but I'm going to miss how it is now.
The closest thing you can do is use something like cloud services such as Geforce Now since it's available there but you'll need a strong network connection. This is what I did when I was close to finishing Battlefield V and my network wasn't the greatest but it was enough to get me through the remaining campaign mode.

Black Myth: Wukong shows very clearly Valve are selling a lot of Steam Decks

Quoting: sarmadSpeaking of Black Myth: Wukong, can it run on Steam Deck? I assume that is way too demanding title for the Steam Deck to handle, but I just thought of asking anyway.
I saw a video of someone playing the game on Steam Deck: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SB1NtSiEJ6E [External Link]
