Battlefield V now broken on Steam Deck / Linux with EA anticheat live

Quoting: XpanderThe "sad" reality is that even those super deep kernel level anticheats don't help these days. Sooner or later something new is needed. There are so many hardware level AI based cheats around already that are basically undetectable by everything.. THere are even some Gaming Monitors that trying to come out with a AI assisted tech like seeing enemy characters as colored blobs or so on... Drawing aproximate locations by listening the game sounds etc... its gonna be nasty future for multiplayer games sadly.
The worse part of all of this is the fact that people have to cheat on these multiplayer games in the first place. It would've been nice if everyone played these multiplayer games without using cheats/mods so that these companies don't have to resort to using crappy anticheat programs that block Steam Deck/Linux users.

Good thing I didn't care about multiplayer and got the stories done before this stupid change happened . Weil, I guess it's time to do the same thing on Battlefield 1 before they decide to pull the trigger on this crappy anti-cheat for this one.

Quoting: CatKillerLegislators getting involved in what you can and can't include in your game, and how a company runs their online infrastructure years after the fact is going to get quite messy, with companies still pushing boundaries and finding edge cases.
I can't imagine legislators doing the right thing since they'll more like side with the game companies over consumers but I do agree with you about the messiness this will entail with their involvement.

EA anticheat arrives for Battlefield V in April, will break it on Linux / Steam Deck

Quoting: honestmaxxSounds like a Steam Deck limitation.
It's also a Linux desktop limitation as well because there are those that play on it that won't be able to enjoy the game for the same reasons as Steam Deck users.

Good thing I didn't care too much about the multiplayer parts of the game and completed the stories to get something out of it before the crappy anti-cheat gets added this week on the Steam Deck.

Quoting: Linux_RocksHow long until a GTA-style Borderlands game? 🤔
Going by GTA time, you'll have to wait for at least a decade before it ever becomes a thing.

Pretty interesting list of companies in this showcase and hopefully, there's some good games that come out of it that'll work on the Steam Deck/Linux

EA anticheat arrives for Battlefield V in April, will break it on Linux / Steam Deck

Quoting: finaldestSo EA are breaking Steam Deck support for their back catalogue of games one by one?
Why would EA suddenly decide to add Anti Cheat to their back catalogue of old games?

I smell a big rat with that kind of behaviour.

I guess Microsoft, Sony or Nintendo has a hand in this. I guess one of them has new hardware on the way, A new handheld maybe.

I will put tinfoil away now.
Between those three, I'm picking Microsoft because of the recent rumors about them making a handheld and Nintendo can't do crap about EA because they're too busy finding other means to screw customers without resorting to kernel anti-cheat.

I guess EA took my $3.99 for this game during that sale of theirs on Steam and now, I can't play this on Steam Deck once they add this crappy anti-cheat. I just have to hope that this doesn't affect the single player portion of the game but I doubt it.

On top of that, the EA launcher is one of the worse ones out there for the Steam Deck and it tends to break so many times over that Valve has to fix it on their Proton updates.

Orange Pi Neo Linux gaming handheld starts at $499 with Ryzen 7840U, Ryzen 8840U at $599

Quoting: Marlockcan any of the xbox players around here exolain the appeal of the left analogue being so far up, arguably less comfortable to use than the d-pad?
From what I can remember back in the Xbox 360 days, the position on the left analog sticks made it easier to play first person shooters than the Dualshock 3.

Nova, a Rust-based Linux driver for NVIDIA GPUs announced
26 Mar 2024 at 3:20 pm UTC Likes: 2

I hope no one thinks Nova means "no go" in Spanish because if they can't get their replacement working out right, then you know the name sounds appropriate. However, I'm sure in due time, they'll sort it out and hopefully, make something better than Nouveau. Now, I must be feeling old because that name reminds me of the early 2000s with trying to get those Nvidia cards working on Linux with little success.

Quoting: JuliusI don't get what the point of the Ryzen 8840U version is. Seems to be the same specs as the 7840U just with a faster NPU, which is AFAIK completely useless in a handheld like this.
I agree that there's no point of having the 8840U and they should've of just used the 7840U but bumped the specs to be something like 32GB RAM/512GB SSD combo for $599 instead. Other than that, if I was in the market to buy one, I would opt for the version with 32GB RAM whenever it becomes available to preorder.
