Quoting: hardpenguinI think people commenting here today confused GamingOnLinux with some mailing list for free software and privacy zealots...?If you have a point, make it. If you don't, then just call people names I guess.

There's something I'm not understanding. Apparently,
your character automatically walks around and engages in battle with various creatures. So like, what do you do?

Decentraland is the latest to help fund Blender development

There's the massive power use . . . but I believe that depends on the specific bitcoin and how their thing works, and I believe Ethereum doesn't do that.

Quoting: dpanterAt what point is money no longer simply money?I don't really see the problem. I think crypto is mainly a vehicle for speculation and people who think it's the future of money are deluded. But that doesn't make it evil, certainly not as evil as lots of stuff that isn't controversial at all. What makes it worse than taking the money of any other rich person who made a bundle on speculation?
Being associated with crypto-whatever is apparently okay in the eyes of the Blender Foundation, so one has to wonder where the line gets drawn. I'm not judging either party but crypto is a divisive subject.

Quoting: keanWhen will designers finally leave this "sword on the back" stupidity? :DStupidity in the sense that it's ahistorical, or according to the notion that it wouldn't work? Because (much like the Hollywood quickdraw pistol rig) it's certainly ahistorical, but it turns out it does work.
itch.io has another great charity bundle to help World Land Trust

I like itch.io, I like these charity game bundle ideas, but I have some serious reservations about these land trust things. They have a tendency to be a combination of greenwashing with colonialism. The trust buys up land in Africa or somewhere which has been lived on and effectively managed since who knows when by some sort of indigenous people (who don't have official title), and has the government run them out, so that the land can be properly managed by white Europeans or North Americans who understand the importance of mineral rights tourism revenue selective logging the environment.
Net effect, the land will probably get more degraded rather than less, store less carbon rather than more, and the people whose land it really is get shafted, so someone out there can make a bundle of cash and we get to feel smug about it, as long as we don't look too close. It's becoming a significant problem.

Dinosaur survival MMO Path of Titans adds the Allosaurus and baby dinos

If they make lots of grind and tons of objectives it might be too much work, when the target audience is really for the most part people who really like dinosaurs. I mean, there are a sizable number of such people. So like, lean on the pretty, work hard on the ecosystem and the dinosaur-nerdy science details, so there's always something interesting to see, and the target audience will probably be pretty loyal.

Quoting: EhvisIt looks pretty good, but unfortunately it is an mmo, which doesn't make me hopeful for meaning gameplay. For that matter, gameplay that was very meaningful would kind of not even fit. I mean, dinosaurs, right? These are not critters that we expect to be solving the riddles of the universe. If I were them, I'd make it, if there is such a thing, a relaxing MMO. You'd go there to look at pretty dinosaurs, roar a few times, eat some critters, chill with your pack mates, grow up to be a big strong dinosaur with cool scales/feathers, and hopefully let your frustrations wash away in the whole dino-ness of it all. Not for all that long at a time, but leaving you feeling like coming back next time you need a dino fix.

More BattlEye titles for Proton on Linux including DayZ, ARMA 3 now supported

Quoting: SeegrasThat latest proton upgrade lead to 30 more titles running out of my 152 that weren't running with proton before. It's now down to 121 (out of my 1915 games or thereabouts that aren't Linux-native).That's almost 94% working, on a pretty big sample. That's pretty sweet, really getting into the kind of territory where people might not be getting upset with the Steam Deck for refusing to play things. And there's still a couple months of Proton improvement until launch.
I might be able to get some of these 121 to run (11 of them want Windows Live, so xliveless would help), I just didn't bother yet.
Of course I don't know how many required fiddling to get working.
