Blasphemous: Wounds of Eventide free update arrives in December, sequel announced

This is such a weird game. Love it. Twisted and great.

Quoting: CyrilStill waiting for the Linux release on GOG.
With this bad move, will they support Linux for the sequel? I don't think so...
You can stop waiting now. Seriously.
This [External Link] is an official decision -- it won't be available on GOG.

Does not mean there will be no support for Linux in the sequel. Just not on GOG, most probably.
This is basically why I think GOG is kind of a failure for Linux users. Wonder if the Steam Deck will finally get GOG to port Galaxy over to Linux, so they can get a slice of that portability pie. If not, at least we have Lutris (which of course doesn't have all the features of Galaxy).

Edit: also wanted to ask, is that a front view of the R-Type ship? Still my favorite shoot 'em up.

Quoting: slaapliedjeI am genuinely curious what running Steam for Windows brings us? Wine on top of wine kind of? Anyone know of any examples these days where it works better than Native Steam + Proton?
Some games cannot be started through Proton, but work just fine through the Windows client. Has to do with the CEG DRM, where the Windows client is required to tailor the exec for your system. Apparently you can start the game through Lutris/Wine and once modified, move the exec to your Proton installation. Alas, when I tried that with FEAR 3, it didn't worked, so I just finished it on Lutris.
Ah, interesting. It has been a while since I bothered running Windows Steam under Wine. I know there were a few that seemed to work better that way years ago, but I had not had issues with them since then.

Quoting: MasterSleortI wonder if the so called remake that TakeTwo / Rockstar are making is actually based on the reverse-engineered code from this repository.
I was thinking the same. Though you would think if they had the source code they wouldn't need to.

I think they are like Bethesda, where Doom (2016?) Had an internal port working flawlessly on Linux, but they killed it so us neckbeards wouldn't get to play it. We showed them! Basically they want to be the only ones who get to say where / when their games are played. Any open source engine of that is capable of letting people play it where they damn well please should be shot down as soon as possible, right?

Quoting: slaapliedjeHa, Epic can go screw as far as I'm concerned. But I understand sometimes people want the free games.
Not only the free games, I got those alright, but I also bought one: Journey.

This game is a real work of art, I cannot properly describe how wonderful it is to actually play it, not just watch YT videos of it. Is just gorgeous, and it transcends whatever objections I might have against Epic, so yes, I've "sinned" and got it from Epic, no remorse.
The alternative was PS3 store, 30 fps, lower quality and a much higher price, while I got it from Epic for peanuts.

Edit: Why I didn't bought it from Steam? It wasn't available there at the time, some region restriction nonsense.
I will use one of the best curses ever.

"May the flees from a thousand camels infest your genitals!" (Bonus points if someone can name the character in a novel that said that.)

Quoting: F.UltraAnd to quote Papenhoff for the third time since you keep ignoring it: "So what we typically do is work with the output of the decompiler and massage it back into readable C++." - that is his own words - not mine - and it's from those that I base my comments on that it looks like they indeed did commit copyright infringement.
Isn't that basically the equivalent of taking the original Aramaic version of the Bible, that Rockstar had the King James Version, then dumping it into a translator, then cleaning up the code for modern English? (sorry been on a 'History' channel kick).

It's the 'massage' part that is the real translation, and probably is the one bit of that quote that doesn't make it copyright infringement. If they showed source code of the original and of the decompiled version, and they were identical, and if it was large enough portions of it, then it can be considered copyright.

Linux continues to remain above 1% on the Steam Hardware Survey
7 Sep 2021 at 2:44 pm UTC

Great, now that we're the official 1%, does that mean we're like Rich snobby people (rich as in freedom of software!)

More seriously, this is pretty sweet. I don't know how, with the lack of any decent 3d hardware on the Macs for decades, how they're still higher on Steam usage, but whatever.

Are there really hard core Mac gamers?

Quoting: F.UltraNo one have claimed that "you can just decompile" and have a finished product, nor do I see how piracy can be any more rampant. Is there a game or application in history that isn't pirated?
Simple, if you could 'just decompile' (other wise translate the binary to source code that works in a compiler) than you could remove any copy protection checks easier than the current method of hacking the binary.

Quoting: F.UltraEveryone is mentioning the Switch because it was mentioned once so it become a talking point when discussing ports to systems where GTA3 currently is not available.
Which is totally a moot point, as Nintendo would never let something like that onto their system without the blessing of T2. So it isn't like having an open source engine for it is detrimental in having officially licensed versions for platforms it was never on... It's basically for computers where you don't need a company's 'Okay' to distribute software on. Though more and more it looks like Apple wants to force such things...

I can agree with your last point, that T2 should just embrace it, hell maybe hire the people who did it and get a proper multi-platform release for their upcoming remaster!

Steam not working right on Arch Linux? It's an issue with FreeType and there's a fix
5 Sep 2021 at 10:23 pm UTC

Otherwise, short version: if they are going to package one library and leave it old, they should package the other libraries that they depend on.... or just use the system libraries... who would have thought that was a thing?

+1 Haiku
Ha, maybe by the time Linux is Mainstream, Haiku will be done!

Quoting: TheRiddickThis trend MAY continue if Valve promise on their whole more games will work and also all anticheat statement by the time Steam Decks come out, even if its initially on SteamOS3. If they fall flat and say, oops, sorry we can't do any of that... well it will go back to under %1 in no time!
I will have to point out that this cannot be SteamOS 3. SteamOS 3 was going to be based on Debian and was called Clockwerk or something, and never got out of Beta. This should be considered SteamOS 4. Also, Valve does not know how to count to 3.
